Airmatic suspension...

I was told by a sales rep that sells various type of air shock suspension parts that the E55 AMG airmatic suspension and the ABC suspension are two totally different shocks. I found some shocks for the airmatic suspension, which i thought was the same on the E55's, but he is saying otherwise and was going to double check for me. I figured i would ask you all.

Here is the link to the shocks i found that are priced pretty well IMO.

Not sure about the different shock issue, but I just ordered the exact same airmatic strut and she worked PERFECT!! Arnott is just great!

You will need Star DAS to collapse the strut for install or a lot of patience in trying to wire it to collapse for install without.

Ole Yacht Master put together a killer DIY on this. He is the man.

So you used the same strut assembly i posted, you have the ABC suspension, and it works as it should on your E55, correct? If so, that's great news.

Maybe this would help. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Is your car slammed on one side up front? That is an airmatic shock problem and it needs to be replaced.

If you are not having that trouble or error messages, just curious what you are up to?

Here is more info on the ABC system. I just don't wanna point you in the wrong direction and have you buy the wrong part.

ABC and Airmatic are two different suspensions systems. The E55 has Airmatic, not ABC.

ABC is a great system theoretically. But it's prone to even more expensive failure. Instead of air, it's oil based. Failures can include a big puddle of oil under the car one day.

But what's great about ABC, is that it controls body roll. On a heavy S Class, it's a good system. Follow one on the back roads and watch how level the body stays even in tight cornering. Very cool.

Citroen uses the same sort of system. They call it an oleo system. Or something like that (as in oleo margarine... )

Active Body Control found in the S, CL, and SL class.
The system minimizes body roll on the car via the use of hydraulics.

So the E55's don't use it? Upon completion of a detailed inspection at a Mercedes dealership, one thing they noted was that the ABC module that controls the suspension needed to be re-programmed. Also said that it does not show any signs of failure, but require reprogramming every so often as "maintenance". So are they full of it?

ABC is only on the S Class (sedan, coupe, and roadster.) For the E Class there's the SAS (semi active suspension; airmatic DC) control module (located in the passenger footwell.) The only "re-programming" is thru SDS that programs the height sensors, front and rear. There's no real maintenance unless you have leaks, or pump failures, or strut valve malfunctions. Then it's a repair. The car should keep itself level and always level itself out as you drive (lower at higher speeds, etc..) but doesn't control body roll like the hydraulic ABC system in the S Class.

Here's a pdf file of the SAS system (it's kinda old and for the E500 but it's still the same system.) Also here's a pdf on testing height and level functions using SDS.
Never mind, I guess they're too big to send thru here. PM me if you want copies.

E55
All e55's are on airmatic (air). ABC is hydraulic (Fluid) similar to what the low riders have.

I am familiar with the two. I was just wondering why the dealership said the ABC module needed to be serviced/ re-programmed if the E55's don't use the ABC suspension setup.
