Permit an off topic thread: Most Comfortable Car?
Hey all,
I have been shopping for a friend who is looking for a new/used car. Looking to spend around $50k used, no more. Unlike us, who appreciate 500 lb.ft. of torque, his ONLY concern is comfort. NOTHING else. Obviously it needs to have adequate power to drive above the speed limit, but no need for a performance car. His sole desired features are: absolute interior silence, both from the engine, wind noise, and road noise over bumps, etc. Smoothness over uneven/potholed roads. He'll accept a soft suspension and sacrifice in handling if it gives him the feeling that he's floating (with some degree of control, let's not get crazy).
What do you all suggest? Do you think a two year old S550 is the ticket, or is that more performance and less comfort than some other car? I have no experience as I'm a performance guy above all else, but tastes differ. He wants something whisper quiet at freeway speeds and supremely smooth over railroad tracks and the like. I know that many of us consider some performance tightness to be an aspect of comfort. He doesn't. He'd drive a big Caddy if it offered supreme insulation and silence and didn't wallow or bounce around with no dampening like the old 70's pimp Caddies. But performance isn't an issue
Any consensus on what he ought to be looking at? If there's something in the $30's that'd be great, but $50k is the absolute ceiling.
Thanks gang,
Skeeter

Sounds like your friend is a perfect candidate for a Lexus LS 460. Smooth, quiet, lots of room, totally boring. Just what he's looking for. Not sure what model year $50K will buy. There should be lots of '07's coming off lease that might work.

Hell, if you want to disappear in numbness and quietness he could get in the 30's and get a Hyundai Genesis with the V8...Granted it doesn't have the grille badge prestige, but he could get it brand new...

+1 on the Lexus. My friend's mom has a (probably 7 year old) LS430 and it's the smoothest car I've ever been in. I can't even imagine how comfortable a new LS460 is.

amazing how everyone went to the same brand. . . Last weekend I was explaining to my parents how "I love my warranty" and "my warranty this, my warranty that". My mom just looked at me like I was crazy and said "never needed a warranty with our Lexuses".
Even when they do go down - the service you get at the dealership is WHAT SHOULD BE GIVEN AT MB DEALERS!!!!!!!!!
They're a great car all the way around. . . now if we could just get a supercharged/TT F series in the GS with the same ground breaking body style of the last generation. . .

This may sound stupid to you guys, but...
BUICK!
im not kidding you, there is a reason why when you become a senior citizen you buy a buick.
You really want a comfortable ride? Get a Buick. forget Lexus, MB, BMW.
Anyone who's driven a recent Buick, please vouch for me. The new LaCrosse looks pretty sweet too.

Sadly I'm not 100% sold on newer Buick's JMO. None the less its become a player over the last few years. Still though, the only Buick I want is made in 1987 And there isn't anything luxurious abut it.
Those new Buicks are great cars though. Lot of bang for the buck.

I had a Buick as a rental car, and it was very nice. Didn't one of those new Buick's spark the trend of cheap side vents found at national auto chain stores?
