What mods are needed to take an M5 on the freeway/highway (high speeds)?

2006 E55: maybe its my combo of mods - but I dont have an upgraded HE or pump ---butt I still can make great runs at high speeds +180mph = but I plan on doing the HE upgrade someday-- colder temps cant hurt.
2005 E55: However, my friend has 180 pulley and his car died with the stock HE -- after he upgraded he has been good -- but with all his mods 180, HE&pump, LT supersprint headers, no cats, tune- he is not much faster than me.

Yes, I have an E60 M5 and we had some fun on the way to the dyno facility. My car only had a tune at that time which yielded 25WHP over stock. It was neck and neck to 145mph against a stage I E55 (Thanks Scott). I lost by 3-4 cars on a Stage III E55 at 165mph (Hadi).Scott - We need to run again...I've added our underdrive pulley kit and tuned her again since....I won't tell you the new numbers. ;-)

If you are stock I beg to differ. Like I said, if you are in Indy look me up. Where are you at? If its close it might be worth a drive to meet up.

haha not 121, and not saying it isnt but i find it REALLY hard to believe you trapped 121 stock me crushing V10 M'S has been stock for stock and if your car is "stock" at 121

~121 is one of my best if not my best. I've had many worse. Launching the car just right is tricky. I've been down the track probably 150 times in my car. Originally Posted by Infiniti

Also, I have changed the air filters (just the filters not a new airbox or anything) and added RPI Scoops that are small pieces of metal that direct air into the air intakes behind the grill. Total cost around $100. Probably the equivalent of you removing the charcoal filters in your E55 and still calling your car stock, which I'm assuming you have done.
Perhaps the Mcars you raced needed a driver mod.

+1 to this. At 150 the car still feels very stable and safe. As long as you're going straight you have nothing to worry aboutOriginally Posted by guysandiego
So, the E55 gets there fast, stable and feels pretty safe.

J's M6 is ridiculously fast, but he also knows how to drive it with SMG very well which I believe really makes a difference at the track and street! Originally Posted by Infiniti

another thing I did not see in the thread is that if the M5 or M6 has a 3.91 rear end gear you will be in for alot of trouble. I saw a M6 outrun a C6 Z06 on the top end which is very hard to do. The Z06 shines up top and it could not keep up given the M6 had headers, pulley, tune and 3.91 gears. It was a sick race.
