Service B items

So my 03 e55 had about 65k on it and needs a sevice B. What does this include? I am being told it is oil/filter change, air filters, cabin filter, spark plugs, brake and coolant flush's, and fuel filter. Does that seem right? Im being quoted around $8-900 for all of this from an indy shop, but do I need all of this? I know I need the oil/filter change, air filter, cabin filter and spark plugs for sure.

Sounds like from what you mentioned you can do all that stuff on your own pretty easily. $900 is outrageous. Maybe around $300 on your own.

Sounds like the indy is pumping for business and has no idea how to service the car.

Fuel filter alone is 7-800 dollars and part of the recalled fuel level sensor assm that should have been replaced back in 08.

Spark plugs are 100,000 miles units and there are 16 of them. $$$

Coolant flush? At 65k? No way

Filters....ok fine.

My actual Service, before add-ons was right at $500...From what I remember, B doesn't include any of that stuff except cabin filters and oil. The cost is the "inspection" by the tech to tell you what else they want you to pay them for As a comparison, spark plugs on my car (only 8) was $400 because you have to pull all the intake tracting etc....

The service booklet that came with the car specifies when you need all these services. Recommend you take a look at it.

A B-service is pretty much just an oil change and inspections. Cabin air filter is fine, changing it every service will help keep your lungs happy.

Engine air filters are replaced as required. If it's been more than 30K miles, then it's likely due.

Spark plugs are 100K miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. It's time if they haven't been done yet. It's 16 plugs at ~$10 or more each.

Coolant flush: I think it's every 3 years on an '03. Later cars changed to a much longer cycle. Check your manual, you are likely due.

Brake flush: Required every 2 years. Doing it correctly requires the SDS tool; only the dealer or a good indy will have it. Market price is $150.

I have an '03 as well with 83k. My car is running and idling well. I know the book calls for the plugs at 5 years or 100k, but does this really need to be done at 5 years in this case when milage is under 100k and car is running well? This is a new car to me, and I'm wanting to spread out some of the servicing.

I guess my concern would be frozen plugs in the heads. I would start saving for the service.

Yeah, I assume that's why the 5 year interval - so the plugs don't get stuck in the heads. Then you would have a problem.

If you're at all DIY handy you could pull the plugs and reinstall using a touch of antiseize on the threads. That would insure they don't get stuck and the cost is pretty much zero. I'm not sure how difficult a plug change is on the E55; I've done it on other engines in the same family and it wasn't too bad.

Mercedes S55 AMG
I changed the Spark Plugs on my S55 at 112,000 miles - they were original, and almost 10 years old! Still performed perfectly with no issues, but was time to change them. From now on I'm changing them at every 80k miles, just to be safe and since the car has higher mileage.

Regardless of service A or B, and obviously oil changes, the flushing of fluids, and other things, I change these every 20k:

Engine filter (Important, Mercedes recommends 40k in my book but 20 is better)
Dust filter (They get dirty fast here and its good to keep the air clean)
Wiper Blades: After 20k they seem to start streaking a bit

Those are fairly cheap, and good for the health of the car, and you!
