I have a feeling it affects all W211s including E63s.... It happened to a friend of mine with an E63, which made me paranoid, so I've been checking mine almost daily now waiting for it to happen

The tank does not need to be dropped.
The entire design is crap. But I think the EPA is the main reason behind the design. The EPA said no more fuel return lines. So, MB came up with this hornets nest of hoses inside the gas tank. 2 fuel pumps...lines everywhere inside the tank and the fuel pressure regulator all inside the tank. A mess.
Thus the reason for the single plastic elbow and 3/8 fuel line feeding a 500hp monster. IMHO a stupid design.
I will inspect closer before we buy any performance vehicle made after 2005. This design and EPA mandate blows. My RS6 still has the return line and regulator on the fuel rail. No problems.
