Love my E63, but I am just not driving it.

So when I bought my E63, it was mainly because my other daily driver car was down for a lengthy repair, and I was not sure how long it would be away, or if I would fix it. So I bought the E63 and loved it. I still love it. The problem is that I am driving a lot for work (I am in sales) and drive my NSX now that it is back. It sounds stupid, but I just do not feel as bad putting the miles on the NSX because it has been my daily driver for almost 10 years, and is very reliable (the repair it was down for was a result of the dealer messing up my car, not the fault of the car itself).

So, now as I walk past an E63 that sits in my garage, I am in a dilemma. Do I sell it, or just wait and see if I find a use for it? I guess what I am asking you all is how many of you have bought an E63 and found yourself driving your other car more? What did you do?

I most certainly understand where your coming from, as I drive my C63 allot more then my E63. Mainly because it's brand new, but also because I love the sound of the exhaust note, and the blipping of the throttle on down shifts. I love my E63 as well, but it's just that the C63 is a hoot to drive. I try not to pick sides, as the one might get jealous of the other, AMG sibling rivalry...LOL But I love them equally, for their different characteristics.

What did I do? bought a porsche LOL. Seriously, had an '04 E55 that I bought new and loved it. One day i'm walking thru the garage to get into my Ford Taurus company car and it hit me: "what do I need with a 4 door "fun" car"?

Sold it to a member here bought an '06 997S and then an '07 997TT. Haven't looked back once.

if you're using your NSX that much think about something else for fun. lots of great used cars out there, so you don't have to spend a bundle. Or, keep the E63 and get rid of the NSX?

Take it to a private track event and enjoy the AMG aspects of it..... I guarantee you after one track event, you'll be hooked and you'll never want to sell it

Sell it, once the passion for a particular car's gone it's gone. Like with my ex-E39 M5, there will be days you'll miss it but since you're neither driving it nor digging it then it's hard to justify the depreciation...

Prior to modding i put 27k on it in 2 years . After mods last year 5000 miles . But since im thinking more and more of not keeping it im starting to drive it a lil more . the thought of getting a CTS V to smoke all u AMG peeps is too damn tempting

Who cares that it will fall apart after a year of abuse

RE: E63 Use

It's all about money, expectations and passion. I use my G35 for my daily driving chores. My E63 and SL600 are both toys that I drive when I want to. I knew that when I bought them. Both are paid for, so they don't cost a lot to own. Sell either? Maybe to get the TT 5.5 motor in a year or 2 after the initial hoopla dies down, and possibly a used SLS in a couple of years; aside from that I'm keeping both for now.

Do what feels right and works for you....money, expectations, passion.

Even paid for, they do cost a lot to own, unfortunately. Because these cars depreciate so rapidly, the cost of having them sit is high. The only way anybody can get value out of them is by using them. If they were collector cars, it would be a different story.

To the OP, if you're not using the car you should sell it. It's not getting any more valuable sitting and you aren't getting any use value out of it either.

But if the purchase price minus depreciation is worth it to you just to have the car in the garage to use occasionally, then that's up to you.

I wish these cars did have collector's value, then keeping the miles down and having them sit while only using them once in a while would make sense. That's the benefit of buying a car that has resale desirability and can actually appreciate over time (older Porsches, certain exotics, etc..)

It seems from your post that you do enjoy the E63. Honestly, for daily driving purposes, I think that the E63 is fantastic - very comfortable, full of amenities, and still has that fun driving factor when you want. I'd imagine it is better all around than the NSX for daily driving. (And the E63 is faster too, although the NSX is a really fun car to drive as well especially on twisty roads)

I'd sell the NSX, and just eat up the miles on the E63...but you said you've owned it for 10 years, so I can see the sentimental value in keeping it. The E63's depreciate fast, so might as well get good use out of them.

Tough call!

I drive my 996TT about 10:1 over the E55, but I'll never sell the E55. Drove it the last couple days as I hurt my back and brought all the E55 passion right back. Of course, mine is a wagon and would be really tough to replace.

If you're not feeling it, sell it, but there is nothing else like it.

I pretty much drive my 4Runner all over the place. The 911 turbo and E55 just sit until I feel like driving it. The E55 is used a couple nights a week and the turbo maybe once a month. It is not because I don't like the E55 and turbo, I just prefer to be as low key as possible.

I say if you can afford to keep the E63 and the NSX, keep them both. Both cars has a separate purpose. The NSX is a sexy car that is fun to drive. The E63 is a great car to go out on the town or take clients out.

Thank you all for your input so far. With the NSX, I love it too much to sell it. Plus, mine is 1 of 20 Grand Prix White / Black NSXs built in 1994 (my favorite year for this car), so finding another would be difficult if I sold it. Plus, it is just a car that fits me perfectly, so I would immediately regret selling it. I almost did just under a year ago when I was really thinking either a 911 Twin Turbo or 360 Modena would be more fun. In the end, I just enjoyed my NSX more that either, even though both of the other cars were faster.

With regards to the E63 just sitting, I agree that just letting a car sit and depreciate is probably a bad idea, which is why I am leaning towards selling it now that I think about it more. The rub is that we go to Canada pretty regularly, and this car has been a dream to drive on those 1,200 - 1,600 mile round trips. Comfortable, and lots of trunk space for my 14 month old daughter and her trove of items. Plus, the protective Dad in me wants the safest car possible for her in case an accident happens, and not much is safer than a Mercedes. That really is my prime reason for still justifying the ownership of this car really. I guess I need to get a grip on how paranoid I want to be for a car that is sitting quite a bit.

Every time I look at my Porsche in the garage under the cover I'm thinking why do I have it if I don't drive it daily..wait that my wife voice in my head. It have under 9K miles and I only drive it when it nice out but this year in Seattle we got about a fews good week of sunshine. I drive the E63 every day. I don't even like to drive my wife X5 because it sit so high off the ground.

I use to have a NSX-T, for about a week. I gave it to my niece and she been driving it every day to school and all over the places. She said cars are meant to be driven and not sitting in garages.

Here you go! This was at a track weekend at VIR that I went to. Great track, and it really showcased the high speed stability of the car.

So I am leaning towards selling, and trying to figure out what to ask for it. With 46k miles and every option short of Distronic, a clean CarFax, and all services up to date (and a fresh detailing), new Continental tires from the dealer (OEM spec E63 tires), the car really does not need anything. I was thinking of asking in the neighborhood of $45k -$46k. At that point I am losing a fair amount of money, but oh well.

Thoughts?

The black and white contrast is stunning, kind of like the 35th Anniversary 88 Corvette.

Btw, the original 911 had a run from 1965 to 1989.

Thanks! Yes, those are 1 of 2 sets of Volk CE-28 Time Attack wheels that were imported for the NSX, so I am pretty lucky to have them. The seats are Bride Low Max GIAS made from carbon kevlar, and are WONDERFUL seats to have for a track day.

This is my 3rd NSX, and the one I plan to keep as long as I live (barring any disasters to myself).

Thank you. The color is what drew me to the car. In 1994 they only made 20 of the Grand Prix White / Black NSXs with a 5-speed, so that rarity is nice too. Those 35th Anniversary Corvettes are beautiful. I love the white with white wheels and the black top.
