E551986 - I'm aware of the obvious differences, I'm just curious about things like how the ride quality differs, features that set one apart from the other, reliability, stuff like that.

ok i got you. E55 is more luxury and more conformable, interior is bigger then c55 ,better handling more futures , but E55 is some way its like babe you have to take care very well ,maintenance cost you more then c55, any kind of problem e55 is expansive , i am not saying c55 is not good , all 55 amgs are best , if you one go with c55 try to get more fully loaded .

The C55 is quick, but the E55 is a step above in terms of performance because of so much more power. The E55 also is more spacious inside and has more options that you can get, which you can't on the C55.
Having said that, over time the C55 should be cheaper to maintain because it does have less complicated stuff than the E55. To start, no Airmatic suspension, which while advanced and great when it works, has been known to give problems over time. So the C55 is a bit simpler in those terms.

I'd like to add one more thing here if I may. I realize that you may be considering only the c55 and the e55. I would suggest going with the c32 over the c55 if you plan to modify. As long as the radiator has been replaced, my c32's were solid and much quicker then the c55's once slightly modded.

Agreed. Drive both and you will not have a question. Compared to the E55 the C55 is not in the same ballpark for anything. The ride quality and power of the E55 are night and day above the C55. As far as cost to maintain, both will cost you more than a normal car, but you really should not be looking at either if you are penny pinching. Not trying to be a jerk, just realistic.
That said, if you go drive an E55 you will love it. Just make sure to get a PPI and try like heck to get one with service history.

Thanks everyone.
@Meeyatch1 - How do the ride qualities differ? I'm looking for a stiffer ride, not so much comfort. If you've ever driven a 3-series BMW, that's the kind of ride I'm looking for, not cushy and luxury. And as I'm sure you can see from my signature photo, I'm no stranger to German auto maintenance costs (that photo is still missing another 911, C class, and 3-series that are sitting in the garage)... lol... I've already had a valve job and a subsequent head replacement on my '05 C230.
