Guys you pick for me 168 or 175
Im in a tight spot,I have 2 pullies sitting here and don't know what to run.
I have a renntech 168 that is a true oem pulley and wont wobble and has the stock damper on it.
and I have a vrp gen 4 with bolts that are prone to come off and it MIGHT wobble once installed and eat my keyway on my crank.
I know the 168 wont be enough power once its on and the vrp is killing me thinking about what could go wrong down the road.
To make things worse I need to pick one asap to get the right tune on it as Im sending the ecu out this weekend.

Go for the 168, Vinny has already proven that you can get into the 10's with this pulley and I believe that Evosport,Kleemann and Brabus all have 168's. I can't but think that there has to be a reason why all 4 Super Tuners have
the same size pulley.
Or you can do this, sell both of them and call ASP and have them make you a 175mm pulley and keep your temps down.

The big boy tuners take a stock e55 pulley, put some type of material on the outer pulley and attach a bigger pulley on the stock one,so your just making the stock pulley bigger and keeping it really close to oem spec.
I think IM going to install the 168 but get the file for the 175 and run a little rich but have the choice of going larger down the road if its not fast enough.

I'd go with the Renntech pulley. Especially with your headers and airbox I'd assume you'd be very happy... Ask me how I know lol.

None fast enough!
FYI, our pulley is the only one that does not re-use the OE damper (which is notorious for failing even on stock cars). Something to consider!
thanks

That is a response I received from Simon in December of 08 when I asked what size their pulley was.

I HAD AN EVOSPORT 168 PULLEY,NO TUNE,NO PROBLEMS,I NOW RUN A 180 ASP,TUNE W/ OTHER BOLT ON'S AND HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK.HAPPY AS CAN BE,TUNES ARE PRETTY CHEAP NOW COMPARED TO 3 YEARS AGO,AVG 19+ MPG ON THE HIGHWAY AND CAN DIG TRENCHES ON DEMAND.I WOULD STAY FAR AWAY FROM VRP PULLIES,TO MUCH HISTORY OF PROBLEMS AND WHO'S GONNA BACK IT UP IF THERE'S A PROBLEM?

Both went back to E/C.
I don't know if ASP is using stock oem pullies now though.
I am going with a 175 thanks to jakpro1
Thanks again Jim,sending you my info now.
Ill have a renntech 168 and vrp 175 up for grabs soon guys,I think the 168 is going to a local from the forum here but if someone wants the 175 pm me.

ASP has their own design for quite some time now which are proven, and yes they start with a stock MB pulley.
Jakpro1, iirc, has a very nice Evotech pulley waiting for a new home. Looks like it found one!

You have no idea of what a class act guy Jim is,by far one of the top members on here.
He offered me a 175 evotech pulley that was 2500 for FREE!!!I couldnt take that offer so Im going to send him cash once I sell the vrp pulley.
Iv gone threw hell and back trying to get my car running right and he offered me a pulley that uses a stock oem setup like renntech and kleemann.

The point I was making is that you had EC pullies that wobbled.

From what I understand is that the EC/ASP pulley is a EC design but made by ASP. ASP has their own design that many have been running for years with no issues.

that is the pulley my mechanic has on his car and its running perfect from day one.Why would E/C have them make another pulley when they have a proven design that works?

Profit and marketing! I assume they make more money selling their own design, and they use the ASP name to help market them.
I thought there was some confusion which is why I commented.
Looking forward to reading about your upcoming PB's Good Luck

I got an Evosport 168 --- it is great - I cant complain but I am sure you can get some more boost out of the E55 before it goes SH!7--
From the limited experiences that i have - I am not impressed by the 180mm... not at all.... not saying I am faster or slower -- just didnt seem like much of a difference---- but many variables !!
So, I think the 175 might be golden but no experience.

I'm not sure what VRP pulley you have but several have broken off on known cars. My car was one of 3 last year and I was very lucky with the outcome, some weren't as lucky. I would be very careful about installing that 175 on your car.
With that said, I wouldn't even hesitate for a moment and go for the 175. You have supporting cooling mods and plan on adding meth. Just my $.02.
