My engine-painting project finally finished (with pics)…PLUS NEW PLATE☺.

So as some of you may remember I broke the star on my engine cover…. which led me to sourcing a replacement emblem on EBay….which ultimately led to this project. Took the better part of a day and half to complete, but I really took my time and was extra careful with everything. I even cleaned up the bolts to give them a fresh appearance (I know, I need help).

I spent roughly $75 in parts and supplies, including new gaskets for the SC tanks.

I removed all the parts, cleaned them with simple green, sanded to scuff and painted in several stages. I used a spray paint designed for plastic for the air boxes and both spray and brush on caliper paint for everything else (with ceramic added for extra strength).

Comments welcome…I understand it may be a bit too flashy for some.

Here’s the new plate, wanted to see what ya’ll thought……

Yeah I wanted to make sure I painted that as well, which is why it took me like 5 months to finally do it.
I left the SC on the car, just taped it off and used brush on paint.
I think it really puts the finishing touch on....lol

Lovin' the AMG emblem on the engine cover. Any consideration in painting the top surface of the AMG on the surge tanks black to match the engine cover? Whatever the case...great job on the project!

it's an addiction - for some reason the gray weave is my crack pipe - I'm actually happy I ask my wife about her opinions on certain things (she's the only reason the interior is CF right now)

The air boxes, engine cover, supercharger, and surge tanks look great.
Not feeling the 3 painted caps though.

Thanks for the positive remarks, compliments from the Master are high indeed!

I actually painted the entire tank red, then removed the paint on the AMG by sanding in stages.
While I agree painting that part black would look great, that's a bit beyond my skill level.

Well both...but you basterds keep running 11.2's like you can pick them up at the local 7-11...FREE with a 40 of 45

I used Dupli-Color caliper paint that was brush-on. Worked great and was about $15 at Pep-Boys. I have used G2 in the past with great results, but that is like twice as much and needs to be ordered.

Brian looks pheonmenal man! The surge tanks loookkkk so good!! Way to up your game. I am not popping my hood at MIR now!

Also, dig the plate, might be good with the ladies....mistakenly inferring hammer as in John Holmes type hammer.

Wait, what other type of hammer is there?
Yeah, I am 100% Holmes...or is it Homer..doh!

I have wanted a plate since I got the car but was stumped for something good. Also considered "11sec DD" and "BLWN AMG" and a few others. Happy with this. The 1986 Hammer changed the way I looked at cars when it first came out. Finally speed and comfort were not mutually exclusive terms. It literally put AMG on everyones radar in this country.

Thanks again for the compliments, means a lot from such a discerning group.
