Nope, its as simple as that. Oh, I almost forgot, there are two sumps on the E63, one front and one rear. In saying that, you have two drain bolts, and don't forget the oil cooler, if you chose to drain that. If not, then no big deal. I've found that it is easier added the oil, by pouring it directly into the oil filter housing. I remove the oil filler cap, and oil filter element for ventilation, the oil flows out much better. After all the oil is drained, I replaced the crush washers on both drain plugs, and tighten to 22-25 ft lbs. As for the oil cooler, I just tighten to what I think is tight enough. Remember, that it is alumimum so don't over tighten it. If you don't have a torque wrench, just get it tight, then tighten it just a little bit more, and your golden. You don't want to strip the thread in the bed pan aka oil pan or oil cooler.

Yes your absolutely right depending upon what chassis the engine is mounted in will effect the bed pan design. I don't know about the front drain plug being unserviceable, because I drain the oil from the front and rear sump all the time. And just replace the crush washers and tighten to 22 ft lbs. The front sump contains at least a 1/2 qt of oil after draining the rear sump, and always leaks on the front sway bar. Which always needs to be wiped clean of oil. And then the oil cooler has some, I can't say how much. But if all of them are drained, you can be assured you got all the oil out. Which I think is better then the suction method.

I am trying to picture the underside of my car in my mind, but that is not working.
