Please help - my new 20" wheels do not fit
Just installed the 20" HRE that I purchased from another member (Thanks! for the deal). The rear wheels fit fine but the front ones do not fix. There is a bolt from the suspension that is rubbing the tires. For the front tire, I have the same tire setup as the previous owner (245/35/20). Is there something I am missing with the setup? The tire guy wanted to shave the bolt but I dont want him to do anything stupid. Right now I have the HRE for the rear and stock on front. It looks wierd.

I think the bolt you're mentioning is the upper control arm bolt that sits just above the tire then the wheel is mounted.
When I had 20s on, I did notice the clearance up there between the top of the tire tread and the bottom of the bolt is VERY minimal, a few millimeters at best.
I was running 245/30zr-20 and it just fit, but I can imagine how running 245/35 zr-20 would not work given the larger outside diameter.
I bet downsizing to a 30 aspect ratio would solve the problem. Just watch out for the potholes!!!

Are you talkin about the bolt that goes straight down from top to bottom? I think it's your tire size. The tire is too tall if I'm not mistaken. I ran into the same problem 7 years ago when I picked up my car and tried to slap 20's on it. The tires were too tall and therefore rubbed into a bolt at the top of the suspension. Found out right when I tired to put on my 20's right before the show.

^ Correct
The proper tire size for 20" is
245/30-20
2X5/25-20 (Can run 275 or 285)
Running the taller tires can help save the wheels from potholes, but other issues arise.

Thanks for all the fast advise. Going to find some other tires. I wonder how the 245/35/20 and 275/30/20 setup worked for the other E55s? I am glad I did not have them shave that bolt. Should I also replace the 275/30/20 in the back?

They work fine for me because I'm guessing my wheel offset is different than yours. However, I hate the lifted look it gives the car. The previous owner put the tires on a month before I bought the car, so I can't justify getting rid of them, therefore I'm just waiting for the to run their course. Maybe a good smoky session will help that along......
