Best place to buy a replacement alternator?

My alternator is starting to fail, when under full load it will barely charge the battery. Wheres the cheapest place people have found them? Also how many hrs should the install be?

I have had good luck with Rockauto in the past - I have not bought anything for my E55 yet but other cars no issues. $230 for a remanufactured part, about $400 for new Bosch. Alternators are $700+ from parts.com .. but they are Mercedes original. I would guess that Mercedes uses Bosch anyway though. Google for AL0826N

Check genuineparts.com they are actually an MB dealer in Atlanta and they offer full MB warranty on all part. They are about 10% higher than parts.com but parts told me they wouldn't off an MB warranty (just a 90 day return for unused parts), while genuine does.

What are the symptoms? Battery dead after 24 hrs?

Yeah im getting one used from a member on the cls55 forums for $100. Symptoms were volts changing on display under load it would hit 13.2 sometimes but idle with no load was ok at 13.9. Before start I am seeing 11.9 on two brand new batteries which means alternator is just starting to fail. Oh yeah and to start it all I got the message that conv. features were disabled twice in two days and then they would turn back on after 5 mintues or so.
