In any event, read the article, not the last page. If the E55 is more attractive to you - if the acceleration quickens your pulse -- if you want handling somewhere between razor sharp and banal (while providing comfort beyond both) - if you want interior and trunk room -- then that is all that matters.

Listen, I can't take the C&D test serious.

My wife owns a SLK 32 AMG and til now, I outran two BMW M5 to speeds up to around 180 kph. Just by a tiny margin but anyway...
The E55 easily outruns my wife's SLK 32 at any speed. We already tested it.

So I really don't worry and even don't care at all what C&D is writing in their test. German Auto, Motor und Sport tested the E 55 to be from 0-125 mph around 4 seconds faster than the M5.
4 seconds mean worlds!

The brake however is better on the M5, I fully agree. Let's hope that the MY 2004 cars will have an improved SBC version (all rumors indicate such a thing).

I live in Bavaria, I always loved BMW and I owned the first M3 (E36) available in my town many years ago. I have no reason to bash BMW but people have to be realistic: there is no way how the M5 could stand any chance, performance-wise, against the E55 (W211). Period.

Well Said

Now we have the Road and Track article that turns C&D upside down...
