Think I totalled my 2005 E55 today

I was driving along about 35mph and a man pulled right out in front of me from a sidestreet. I barely had time to hit the brakes before I t-boned him. Luckily neither of us was hurt seriously. I had never experienced an airbag before but I really got a good jolt. I don't know if it was the wreak impact or the airbag that was worse. I banged up my knee and it is swollen but I am pretty much OK.

I've had the car since 2006. It had 38K miles but it was still like new. I never had any problems with the car. The factory warranty ran out less than a year ago and I purchased the Chrysler warranty but never used it. I planned on keeping it until at least the warranty ran out. I really loved this car, it is probably the best car I ever owned. It had all options except for Distronic and I also had a Renntech package with headers, throttlebody, pully and Renntech computer. It had a built in radar detector and had been lowered just a bit.

I'll be lucky to get $30K from insurance if it is totalled and I sure won't be able to replace it for this. I think I may like an E63 as well if I could get a newer one but I can't see liking it any better and it will cost me double.

Oh, the guy that pulled out in front of me was in a Lexus and was just shy of being 95 years old. I really felt sorry for him. He was coming home from the hospital after visiting his wife. His daughter had been visiting also and told him he didn't need to be driving anymore. I tend to agree but I still felt bad for him.
Anyway I've been on the forum a while and had a lot of good advice here and I wanted to vent a little. I'm going to miss this car.

Yep, I think it is a goner.. Too bad, the E55 is one of the true greats in the auto world, IMO. That said it is nice to see you show compassion for the other driver rather than ranting and raving about how you'd like to kill him over the banged up E55. In the end the E55 is just a car.

His wife crazy
That sucks, but what matters is you're ok, and the old dude may get to die of natural causes. She may be gone, but if you part her out, her spirit will live on.

Sorry about the car man but like others said at least everyone is ok.

Take the nav dvd drive, spare tire and pump out the trunk before they take it.I would try to get that tb off also to try and part some of it out before they take it from you.

Glad you are ok. Being someone who totaled a C55, I don't think this one is a totaled, yet. Just remember if they declare it a total loss, the number they come back to you with is negotiable. I would add up all your investment into the car. Get market value for 3 E55's and submit that to your insurance company. It worked for me. I was able to get $38,000 for my 2005 C55 with 52,000 miles on it. Just by doing that. there original offer was $22k

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
Definitely totaled, so sorry to hear....
Though I think it's compassionate you feel bad for the ol' chap - the fact of the matter is, he should NOT have been on the road. Period.
I hate saying this, but I would have been upset if I were you. Our elders need to realize there comes a point in time where they are just not as alert as they used to be, & need to cease driving.

1....thank God you are okay and inside a car specifically designed for these types of hits!!

2....not sure how many of these you have been in, but know that the 3rd day is always the worst. Soreness will get worse till bout the end of 2nd and sometimes into 3rd day. Don't panic, it's just part of the process. I've been in a few obviously.....

+1 On old people driving. The problem is they think they can drive forever, and they will unless a family member or someone steps up and tells them it is time to give up that freedom.

All easier said than done. I can imagine you gear-heads (myself included, too) at 95 being told we can't do what we love anymore. We're all gonna say the same exact thing - that we can still handle it. Accidents happen to everyone. I am sad to see an E55 get wiped out, though. The E55 seems more special, more iconic, in the sport sedan world than the E63.

Hope the other driver's insurance company, lawyer, not to mention your own insurance underwriter doesn't see your post.

Am I the only that doesn't feel ANY sympathy for the old man? He pulled out onto oncoming traffic and risked the lives of two people (the OP & himself).

I have ZERO sympathy for old people that should not be on the road. These people endanger the lives of everyone on the road and do not deserve to have a license. What if a mother of three was coming home from school and this old man pulled out like that, killing the children? I am sure everyone's opinion here would change drastically. At least I would hope.

OP, I'm sorry for what happened to you and glad you're OK. But DO NOT feel sorry for the old man.
