Test Headlight cornering?

I had the headlamp assembly replaced on my E55 today because the headlight cornering wasn't operational since I took delivery. On a previous service visit, to keep from being reminded everytime I was in the car, I had the service dept. disable the headlight cornering in Star.

Now that it is replaced, I can't tell if they re-enabled it. It has no mention of enabling it on the service order. When I got home from the dealer, I pulled into my garage and the headlights didn't turn at all. When I pull into the garage in my BMW, the head lamps turn with the sterring wheel. Do the E55 Headlamps work the same way? -or do they only move when you are driving at speed (like the dynamic seats)? When the car is sitting and I move the wheel from end to end, the lamps do not move at all.

Good question, I've never tried it while stopped. But upon start-up they should do their little dance not only up and down, but also side to side.

Of course, the best way to test is take it out tonight and just drive some twisties. It's pretty apparent when they're working or not.

Well, I still have the "up and down dance" but there is not left/right dance when I start up the car. I can't go test tonight as I have had a couple tasty brews after I got home from the office so the test drive will have to wait until tomorrow.

Anyone else with an '04 E55 know if the headlamps do the "dance" left/right upon start up?

I have the active cornering lamps on my E also but they do not swivel left and right upon start-up. They only swivel up and down. Turning the wheel left and right while stationary will not activate them either. The car has to be moving even a little. I pull up to my garage and see them moving when i turn the wheel... Always seems as if the driver side headlight moves more than the passenger. Not sure why that is though.

Interesting. I have a 2009 and when you first start up the lights (not from auto mode but by turning them on) I get the distinct up and down dance, and then a definite left to right dance. I've tried it several times. My BMW only does the up and down. It doesn't have active cornering HIDs.

On my '06 cls55 I only notice the light closer to the turn move outwards and the other side stayed the same. Nevere noticed them move at slow speed like turning into garage. No side to side dance on startup.

Interesting....maybe something programmed into the control unit for the newer models like yours?

I am thoroughly confused. Mine don't seem to do anything. They certainly don't move when I turn the key. I'm waiting for it to get dark to go test.... I live in the city and there aren't any winding roads. :-(

On my 2004 they go up and down at startup, but not side to side that I've ever noticed. The easiest way is to back out of and pull back into the driveway while turning the wheel side to side, like you're slaloming around a car parked behind you. It will be very apparant that they are working.
