Can anyone verify if these are the 2.82 215mm gears we need that will work with our diffs:

All of the MB differentials in V-8 powered cars from 1972 until 1997 have a 215MM ring & pinion.
This is what a Mercedes Tech wrote on another forum, so I'll try to verify with parts dept!!

So two things.
Chawkins, The s class differentials can be both 215 or 210. But most likely the 1st one is 215. The 5.7 hemis came with 210mm differentials. The SRT8 cars came with 215mm.
Also not all gears and carriers are the same setup. The quaife lsd will only hold up to a 3.06 gear set from the factory. So only Richmond gears work as higher ratios.
2nd,
No Mercedes came with 215 gears until the early 20--s. I do not know exactly what model and what year but all the earlier cars came with a maximum 210mm gear set. This was basically the same setup from the early '70s. The quaife unit for the 500slc listed in their catalog fits all the way up to the r129 chassis cars and shared differentials. I had one in my 300ce w124. This is a 210mm gear but different than the ones that came in the early 220 chassis and Clk and newer cars.

I have a wavetrac lsd in my e55. Thanks for the clarification on the chrysler 5.7 litres.... I really need a benz 2.82 gear but I suppose a srt8 3.06 could work.

Wavetrac etc. the carriers are the same. Unlike say a ford rear end that you can change the setup Mercedes decided to make about 3 different carriers for every differential. Each holds a different range of gear ratios. So in the same housing you could have 3 different carriers. A 3.27 or 3.73 ratio will not be on the same carrier as a 2.82.
Look at either the srt8 differentials or the clk. I think that lot of the stock srt8 cars came with 2.82 gears also. The problem you have is that you will have to swap the gears from the different case. The w211 and r230 chassis has a very different housing the way it bolts up.

I dont mind setting the gears back up, I just need the correct ring and pinion. Going with a 3.06 gear, I will have to spin my motor to 6750rpms going through the traps in 3rd. Thats based on if I trap 130mph.....I may trap more than that because I am going to a 28" slick, trying to get this sled to 60ft.
2.82 gear is the answer, I just need to know exactly what year, make and model benz's they came in with the 215mm.
Thanks for the help whipplem

chawkins - do a 3.55 swap and up the rev limit to ~7200?
Am I doing my ricer thinking, to think that the valves surely can't fail/mushroom at that rpm?
That really sucks if that's the case
