Anyone every explored the avenue or getting a custom ring and pinion made

I believe ours is 2.81 or there abouts, has anyone upgraded to say a 3.73 or 4.10 ring and pinion gear I know you can step up to a SL55 rear, but that is such a small jump it would not be worth it.

Imagine with our tq monsters what that would feel like and how it would improve 1/4 mile times although the top end would suffer a little. Would we be able to calibrate our speedo's as I am sure the computer would freak out?

Buick T-Type, 70 cuda, S65 and a very FAST Truck!
I believe the SRT8 Dodges have the same differential. I wonder if the 3.55 and 3.73 gears that they offer would interchange.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
Stock is 2.65 , SL is 2.82 and then there is a 3.06, although I cannot recall from which car its from, could be G55/DTM...

Anyhow ... the hardware (being non trivial) is a walk in the park compared to getting the EGS to play ball... Even though my car with a 2.82 runs OK - I still think there is room for EGS improvements ...I am convinced the ECU/EGS pull performance somewhere along the line especially when speed climbs as the system sees larger delta differences between expected wheel speeds and actual wheel speeds...

I have yet to hear of one 3.06 running 100%, while there are a few 2.82's running reasonably ok.

Anyhow, some free advice ... dont go there.

Kleemann offers TCU tuning but don't know about gearing changes of that magnitude. I foresee alot of spinning and if it hooks, alot of breaking

CLK Black. Cory is selling a used one with TCU tuning for it

Re: Diff Ratio

+1. As of a few days ago I believe that Black Series diff was still available at Kleemann. I'd venture going much past that ratio would be a challenge with anything other than drag radials for your car anyway.

No one that I know of has gone above a 2.82 ring and pinion which is the stock sizing for sl55's. Jerry from eurocharged performance has the tcu tune for the gear swap.

I do have 3.55's, and we're still getting the shift tuning dialed in. I'll let everyone know once it's working correctly.

Whoa....you must do 4th gear burn outs...lol.

I'd hit shorter gears for sure, but no more than 3.0x.

Do the SL's have the same rear diff? I have a 97' R129 M119 and I'm trying to make this thing get up a little better and a 3.55 would def do that!!!!
So do the E55's and SL's share the same diff?

I think some came with the 215mm dif and some came with the 210mm diff. If it has a 215mm ring gear in it then it should work.

Thanks, I'll research it and see if the 97' R129's came w/ a 215mm ring gear!
