Anyone ever paint their E55?

Has anyone ever painted their E55? If this had to be done, it would be done right, removing paint to bare metal, and paiting door jams, under hood, everything.

I am a big red car guy, and MB Mars Red would look insane on the W211 AMG body imo. Anyone in this industry know what something like that might run? Could someone do a photoshop on Trizzle's pic as black DPE's would sit just perfect:

I'd love to paint my car...but you would be out of your mind to ask for a shop to strip the entire car down to bare metal to repaint it...especially since it's completely useless to do so since it doesn't make it "better". I can only imagine the bill would also be double the amount of a regular WELL DONE paint job. I should know, I've painted cars ( not entire cars, but large portions of them ).

A good paint job like the one you're asking for ( without the bare metal stripping, but painting door jams and what not ) would be about $3K-$4K depending on where you live.

To bring it down to bare metal and repaint the entire thing would cost in excess of $8K..the materials used alone would rake up the costs considerably ( you need A LOT more primer and A LOT of paint stripper ), I wouldn't know though since I doubt anyone has ever done such a thing except on high end exotic cars or classic cars.

I thought about a wrap but it would probably cost just as much.

I would say vinyl as well, I'm quite certain it will be significantly cheaper than a complete paint job (at least locally I know it is)

Here's a black SL65 that was wrapped in red

IMHO there is nothing better than the factory job on Benzes... Remember most of our cars sans earlier 2003's came with the ceramic paint. Check your door jam for the "C" after the paint code. I dont know of any shops that currently replicate that type of paint.

I had this very thing (taken down to bare metal) done to one of my vehicles and the cost was only about $5,000. Keep in mind, this was done in a small town in PA and there was no "time frame" involved so they could work on it in their spare time. I had them also take off the front and rear bumpers and replace them with ones included in my body kit as well as remove the factory exhaust from the cat back and replace it with a new system. I know they did it too, as I saw the vehicles progress many times. Now, they did not sand it in places like under the hood, door jams, etc, but 99% of the car was sanded. Although they didn't have a time limit, it was done within three weeks. They agreed to do it for this price because, at the time, my car was competing in car audio competitions and I place a small sticker in the rear window of my car with the shop's name on it about (maybe 4x6 inches). I also distributed business cards at any show my car was in, should people as about the paint job (there was no doubt it was custom, as it was pearlescent paint which was just becoming popular at the time). I am sure companies would so something like this today... Just shop around.

I think I am going to go for it guys, I did some research and these guys have handled some really nice luxury cars and did all the W Hotels interior decor:

http://www.adnormous.com/

They are local here and quoted me $3500 for the entire wrap, minus the roof and windows.

Now my only question is, should I go with Mars Red color code which they can do and he also recomended STEALTH MATTE BLACK I am going to have black rims thrown back on the car if I go Mars Red. They said it would only take two days I think Mars Red would pop so hard.

Not an E55, but my old C was Mars Red with black rims. Thought some pics of it might help you with a visual since the bodies look sort of similar.

This is a close to what I could imagine it to be, you think it would be good to do all the chrome trip in gloss black or DI NOC CF like my roof, what about the grill, CF DI NOC like the C63 below? We also have chrome trim on our door handles, do that all red, CF or Gloss black:

Actual Mars Red on a C63

IMHO matte is so played out and people have not even been doing it long. Too many ricers where I live with matte paint which possibly is influencing my opinion.

Matte is not for a daily driver. Mars red could be pulled off though.

I only suggested the Matte red because you were debating between Mars Red and Matte Black. I agree that a daily driver should not be matte. A friend of mine had a gallardo matte black and it was a disaster to up keep and maintain. Now there are alot of new products out to help. Regardless it is pretty played out.
If you were going to do anything along the lines of matte wrap do a full CARBON FIBER WRAP, that would look pretty sick, you can carbon fiber wrap the wheels too!
But it seems your heart is with Mars Red. If you must , do the wrap.

Just please do not paint your car, I dont care if you get a wizzard to do it. It will never be the same, in so many ways.
