Installing new valve covers, gaskets, and plugs - need confirmation

I've read through a bunch of threads but, not a ton of clarity for what I need...

How tight are you supposed to tighten the bolts holding down the valve covers? I think I read 72 foot/pounds but need confirmation.

Also, I'm installing NGK LFR7AIX plugs while I have easy access. I know they come pre-gapped but, I want to check each one. I thought I remembered the gap should be .080 but, that seems really wide.

Can someone confirm the above or correct me?

Thanks,
Todd

I believe the 7AIX plugs from NGK are gapped at around .026-.028. At least mine were when I changed them last weekend. I believe stock gap is .031 on the range 6 plugs.

As others have mentioned, if you need to gap them for whatever reason, do so from the side, not between the electrode and tip as you do not want to damage the tip.

That doesn't seem to be much more than finger tight. I would have thought it would have been more...

Its more than you think, but I'm not sure if you can find a foot pound torque wrench that starts that low. Good luck

Yeah just make them nice and snug with your ratchet and you'll be fine.

My plugs were all pre gapped at .030 I checked them all to be sure.

Exactly what I did. My torque wrench starts at like 35lbs...

Thanks,
Todd
