So I took my car in to get looked at for the p2096 code. Found out that my tensioner pulley is wobbling. Replacing that. From my wrench. "You have an issue with the harmonic balancer - essentially the large pulley on the crankshaft - it's a known problem.* The pulley separates and can cause significant damage when it breaks.* Yours is wobbling during engine running and causing the belt tensioner to be highly stressed."

Then more great news.

"The check engine light - this is a puzzle.* The o2 sensors are showing a failure above and below a threshold at different times during the drive cycles.* This is very unusual.* Clearly this is causing the car to misfire or at least run rough.* It is very unusual to have this type of failure on a single side of the engine - both sides would be more likely.* We are still looking for the primary cause of this - more when we have it."

I don't have a Problem spending money but this is not cool. Just thought I would share.

So just a quick update on the car. Its been at the shop for 7 days now and finally I think we have nailed down what is happening.

From my mechanic:

"Hey Kevin
Just trying to keep you updated here - waiting for the warranty inspector to visit and sign off the harmonic balancer. I think we have a solution to the check engine light - there is a recall and flash the dealer needs to do with a replacement of a relay for the secondary air system - this is where we see the problem stemming from."



So hopefully this will fix my issue. Only time will tell though. I will update this thread if I see that CEL again.

Nope. My problem was a tiny exhaust leak. Did you try the O2 spacer yet?

Not yet. I was actually at a shop near my house this morning that had some good reviews online (and one guy specifically needed help with on O2 sensor issue) and he found that I was getting code P2008, which could lead to an O2 sensor trigger. Doesn't make sense to me considering the other sensors aren't going off, but I'm finding this seems to be more magic and mirrors than I would have ever thought.

I drop the car off at the dealer to see what they can troubleshoot (my service advisor is sympathetic to modders as he mods his cars) while I'm out of town for the week. We'll see what progress they can make.
