My concern was doing it within a mile. And being able to flip a 1000hp car after checking that one off the list. Has 200mph been done by an SL55 in the mile yet?

Bit of a tall order, I'm afraid. I understand the Bugatti Veyron only 'managed' 201 mph...

I need to take some pics, I just gave it a good wax today. Its an auto black on black I have the regular seats. The recaros are nice but to firm for me I've had lower back surgery so I need a little more cushion in the seat. Still trying to put a few more thousand miles before I start with the mods, so far I have an airaid intake.

I would have to go with the 07+ S65. It's comfy, brutally fast and it means business.

A Veyron really isn't that quick. It's fast as hell yes, but not that quick. it only does the 1/4 mile in 10.4 seconds.

In the TX mile a few of my friends have gotten 220+mph, and some supras and TTGs have done 240+

My friend owns BBI automotive and they have gotten their TTP cars up to 230 I believe, they are no joke! I don't think an SL has gotten anywhere near that fast

So last night was a classic case in point regarding the lack of knowledge about AMGs in Indiana. The weather is decent at nearly 50 degrees. I break out the SL on a Saturday night to go out for some mediocre Mexican food. On the way home, (in Mexico of course, I think El Camino Real was the road ) a BMW 325 next to me rolls down the window and says are those as slow as they look? I glance over to wifey, she says blow his doors off. I yell back to the guy and say yep, but you wana go at the light? The race is on. I knew my T1Rs would protest to the torque of the modded 55k at 50 degrees so I dialed the power on gently. It did not matter, the 325 was walked bad. Shortly after second gear kicks in with wheel spin, the BMW is multiple car lengths behind and makes a quick exit left into the darkness. I guess I am teaching people in Indy about AMGs one car at a time.

A 325i? You're kidding. I wouldn't have even bothered rolling down the window to respond.

Has anyone thought of a Jaguar XFR? Top Gear (UK) seemed to like it. supercharged V8 500hp Has a bit of an underdog factor that I like.

Logical move from the E55 - the 2012 E63 with the new 5.5TT with optional performance package.

+100000 The new E63 and S63 Twin Turbo versions with performance packages are the way to go. I can see 700+ hp in their future with just a tune

Probably got a point there...by the time the Veyron gets into its stride the mile is far gone...! Need to ask though. These 230 mph Porches are they 997s or 996s?

This is how I view it, having driven some of these cars myself and comparing it to the E55. You definitely want to feel like you are stepping up from the E55, and not to the same thing or down. For me, sometimes performance trumps a nice leather interior, you kind of forget that when you are having fun with it.

To preface, these are all very good cars - but each fairly different. You really should drive them to get a good sense of exactly what you want.

1.) CLS55 - Great beautiful car - would perform similarly to your E55, but I don't think it's enough of a difference to really justify it on looks.

2.) Cts-V - Very fast and powerful, but I'd prefer to go all out and get the Vette. Qualms about the interior are repeated, but I kind of like it.

3.) Gallardo - If you can afford it, the sound and looks are amazing. A lot of fun to drive as well, and it's a lamborghini.

4.) P-Car - Great cars - but unless you are getting the newer turbos, I think they aren't nearly as exciting as the E55 or the Z06. Handling wise on a track they get are great too, if you take it there.

5.) Viper - I've never driven one so I can't comment.

6.) Vette - The Z06 is amazing. Extremely fast, and you will put a huge smile on your face when you go WOT. I think it may be the most exciting car in the bunch to drive, even edging out the Lambo. And it's one of the cheaper ones too. The interior is plastic, sure - but it's a real sports car.

7.) CL65 - The V12 is great, but I think coming from an E55 you may be disappointed with the wow factor. It's fast, but very low key and drama-free.

So basically that assumes that you will also want an "exciting" car to drive, coming from an E55, I think that'd be correct. In my opinion, the Z06 will deliver that excitement moreso than most cars costing more money. If you can put up with the cheap interior, it's a very solid car.

Also as mentioned, the C63 is a good compromise as well. I think it is pretty raw, and while not as fast as the Z06, is built and finished a bit more upscale if that is what you want.

As a long time P-car owner (many variants of the 911) the main thing about them is that you can have great fun driving them without the kind of muscle car power that people here are used to..... they are one of those kinds of cars that are just as rewarding driving slow as they are fast. And due to the weight/power ratio the non-turbos are also rewarding (e.g., GT3 RS) Yes, the torque that people get spoiled with in the 55 is found on the turbos (like the 997.2 Turbo S) but they reward in a whole different way. The AMGs are body builders whereas the P-cars are the athlete. There's nothing like pointing one into a corner and feeling the thing pivot effortlessly.

They are just two different styles of exciting.

One thing I will say about the 997TT - I drove one recently, it was a 2007 without the PDK of the newer 911 - it was such a well engineered car that you can't help with being impressed. Floor it, and point straight, there is a slight hesitation as the wheels fight for a little bit of grip and then you are off. It was very fast, especially with that setting that gives it more torque. It, like the CL65, is fairly drama free, and not really a muscle car like the E55/Z06 - but it will depend on your tastes.

Z06 is an animal. That was the only car Ive played with that made my e55 feel like there was something wrong with it. It pulled away so quick and left me in the dust! Not sure if it was modded or not but it looked stock. The sound is better then any car including the lambo, and ferarri imo.

You are right, but he needed to learn some respect for his elders and AMGs

I guess I was a bit pi$$ed too. No one has every asked me if my beautiful R230 is as slow as it looks. W211 guys might be used to this sort of thing, I don't know.

As far as American muscle, the C6 Z06 and 08 Viper gets my nod.
