Service D - E55 55K miles
Ok, I've seen a mixed bag on Service D
Seems like a whole lot of "checking" and not a lot of doing
Anyone have a service D done recently and what was the cost and what did they do?
I'm in the north Atlanta area

Mine is due in about 1200 miles and was wondering what all was involved as well.

it's b service + brake fluid. The dealer techs don't exactly do the brake service from what I've heard. They just suck the brake fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir and refill with fresh fluid.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think service "D" just tells you the amount of time needed to complete the service? Your owners manual outlines how you can actually look up the service items that are needed in your dash display.

My service D has been exceeded by almost 2 weeks. I talked to my service advisor when the reminder came up 21 days before it was needed. He reviewed my service history and mileage then told me not to come in until end of April or beginning of May. Also, he said they only do Service A's and B's. He told me that I was next due for a service A (~$250) which is a synthetic motor oil/filter change and lots of checks.

These services are such a scam. High paid inspections IMHO. My dealer wanted a B because almost a year gone by, but I had only put 2,500 miles on the car. I said no thanks, change the oil and reset the service light. I don't need another inspection. They said that they can't do that for liability reasons. Funny, when I emailed the service mgr that I'll be using my independent MB shop, they took on a whole new attitude. Picked up the car, changed the oil for free and apologized for making things difficult to begin with.
Don't get me wrong, I have no issues paying for service when it's needed. Need is the key word. My car isn't a 747 carrrying 300 passengers that needs FAA inspections b/c it's a matter of life & death. I swear, many dealerships depend upon owners with more money than automotive knowledge and make you feel like if you don't have regular inspections of everything, you're not "worth" of such a fine automobile. Whatever... Dealerships make the bulk of their money in two centers: F&I and service.

The shop I have taken my E55 to was a little more thorough than what the dealership quoted me.
They told me they had to get the codes on what the service D would entail before they gave me a price.
They said I can get the codes from the instrument panel if I knew how to do that instead of bringing it in and having them hook it up.
Anyone know how to get the actual codes other than Service D message?

Service D for me due in 26 days...but I'm going to have them throw on the rotors/pads/sensors all around that I got from parts.com. Gonna have the stealership do it because there's always "something" that they find that the extended warranty covers...

i got a quote from my dealer for the rear pads/rotors for $887. I ended up doing the rear pads myself and took about 1 1/2 to get them. Didnt need to repalce the rotors, so will store it until i do.

Did anyone figure out what the service D actually consists of? I am due one in about 600 miles and I'm trying to decide if its even worth it, or should I just get the oil changed and reset the service reminder. The language barrier is killing me over here; not to mention the difference between the U.S. Dollar and the EURO.

Oil/fluids/filters...not much more beyond that. They flush the brake lines. I got completely ripped off on it but did it anyway as I was getting all pads/rotors done at the time as well.

Interestingly, MBZ has went away from anything above B. Typically, they only perform Service A and B now. When time permits, I'll review my paperwork to see if a previous Service D falls under Service A or B. I just had Service A performed and paid $226 (with 15% off).

Do you still have your maintenance and owners manual? E55 maybe slightly different than the E63 as far as Service A and B stuff. How many miles do you have?

I just took a look at it and it looks like the most serious thing is the oil change, my car has 68,000 miles on it and I had most of the other stuff done before I shipped the car over here. So I'll just take my own oil to them and have it changed. Thanks
