Sl55 mufflers installed... Few problems

Installed sl55 mufflers today(no tips, going to install Eurocharged tips) heard few sound clips of them with resonators taken out and sound good...
Mufflers fit fine, hanger needs to be extended.

I have no sec cats, no reasontor. Car drones like crazy, has really low bass exhaust note. Nothing like the videos I've heard. Sounds wack lol. Would adding xpipe help with the exhaust note? I know it will definitely reduce drone... Any thoughts? Just read through 10-15 threads but no ones really done this setup.

X-pipes do tend to make cars sound MUCH better...I'd install one whether it makes the drone go away or not.

I would say put the resonator back, and you can leave off the secondary cats or replace with hi flo. But a huge contribution to the drone is soley the result of deleting the resonator, throw it back on and you will be happy I think.

It sounds really boaty aswell... almost doesnt even sound v8 like until the boost kicks in... Im going to put a 3" magnaflow xpipe where the 2nd cats were and see if that solves the issue... I really rather not put resonators back in

I threw the 2nd cats n resonators away

just adding tips will help with drone by carrying the exhaust completely beyond the car and an x-pipe will change the tone, as will the design and placement. sl55 mufflers can give you the best sound compared to any set up, aftermarket included, so you'll figure it out.

This is one of the problems I had. The X-pipe will help, but it is still going to sound sloppy. I had my guy take the Xpipe back out and put the resonator back in. I actually chose to sacrifice the 2-5hp that the resonator deletion would give because it sounded like a F350 pickup truck with it off. I think I have the xpipe in the garage someplace if you want to try it. It was fabricated for me so I don't have any flow testing on it. If your run a high flow exhaust, you should be able to compensate for the restriction that the resonator would give. The guys on the other list say the E55 cans are pretty restricting and heavy. The E/C63 stuff is lighter and freer flowing, but still not great. I was told that I should gain around 15hp on an E63 with the Meisterschaft Sus Gt exhaust I put on my car, so the stock AMG cans are still restrictive. The gain on the C63 where closer to 25hp, so I guess they have different internals or something. If you threw away the resonator that may set you back, I heard they are pricey.

I'm still waiting on the quad tips from eurocharged, once received will put them on... but didnt think tips could make a difference in sound? But I guess your right, as the muffler is about a 1/2foot in from the rear which could be causing some drone! I am going to put the magnaflow true x pipe in place and cross my fingers it sounds good! I dont mind some droning as I rarely "cruise" wot ftw LOL...

Thanks guys, I'll keep you guys posted!

xpipe was like night and day for my car. You will be happy with the xpipe. At first my car sounded like a boat but now it sounds like a really nice car.

get some 3" resonators to reduce the drone and put a x pipe in and you will be happy.

One thing I've noticed with these cars is a lot of the custom exhaust setups sound rather blatty, at least on YouTube.

Had a magnaflow true xpipe installed today. Sounds MUCH better, much quieter, deeper tone than the stock e55, but not loud. Still droning a bit, but its ok. Well see how it sounds once the tips go on next week! I will make another video, including cold start soon...

he'll be fine with the sl55 mufflers, they sound perfect when done right. not to mention they tuck up into the oem location out of sight so that there's no fugly mufflers showing like there are with most aftermarket set-ups. no better way to ruin the clean look of a beautiful car than have out of place mufflers hanging underneath the rear diffuser for everyone to see and there's no weight savings that is worth that imo. fml!!!
