How many E55s are out there?

The last thread about this quickly degenerated into a pissing match - but I, for one, am curious. Are there any definitive numbers out there? We did a registration search in October and there were far fewer than 5,000 55Ks - but cars at dealers would probably not be listed, and some states don't make that info. available, so I'm sure there are more.

Anyone have a link to something?

That seems to jive with the numbers I got quite nicely, actually. Sort of makes you wonder about these guys that claim to have sold massive numbers of "kit x" or "part y" doesn't it?

true, but the 55k motor was seen in a number of different chassis (e,s,sl, etc..) that could be some reasoning behind their claims. or maybe like you said it's just raw BS

I'm actually not sure what you're referencing.

But just remember the M113 was on multiple platforms which probably triples sales. I bet more SL guys modded than E guys anyway. Furthermore, if you're talking pulleys [just searched your recent posts]

Lets do the math:
E55 + S55 + SL55 + CLS55 + G55 in the years with the 55K = 25,247

Now, the company you're questioning sells worldwide, which means that the total # will be >>>>25,247, since the posted figures are just US domestic sales.

I'd say that at the VERY least, 1 in 25 owners in the US got at least 1 pulley from that company, if not here second hand on the forums. Certainly not a stretch.

Not to mention, if you look at his reply, he is talking about all pulleys for all platforms. I'd actually be surprised if they hadn't sold 1000s.

Nice to see I have the most common AMG on that list (2004 E55). More parts and better supporting community for me.

2009 E63 Wagon is the rarest of all AMG Cars with only 24 brought to the United States. If you look at the numbers I think AMG realized the allocation of cars was way too high early on 2003-2005 which has hurt the value of the E55 but since the power and torque numbers are so high demand is what is holding the price up. The flip perspective as a W211 E63 owner I think the price will hold ok (Similar to the E55) in the long run due to the significantly lower production numbers (2400 or so total) and the large displacement only AMG designed and built motor.

and if we're talking about pulleys, you can add roughly another 5000 amg 32k motors and possibly another few thousand str6 crossfires (again, just u.s. production numbers).

The E55 may well go the way of the 1968-1972 W109 6.3. These were, by far, the most advanced and fastest sedans of the day. The 1968-1969 109's were the most powerful and are capable of 1/4 mile times in the 12's. I should know. As the 109's aged and filtered into the used car market at greatly reduced prices many of the owners could not afford the maintenance expenses. The 109's maintenance costs were considered to be 6.3 times the cost of any other Benz. Eventually the vast majority ended up in backyards on cinder blocks and overgrown with weeds or in the graveyards of the rusted automobiles. Today a properly restored W109 brings big money, especially in Europe. I suspect the E55 awaits a similar fate in the not too distant future.
