Paddle shifter minor repair...advice needed

The left paddle shifter works fine except it had separated from the body of the steering wheel by 0.5 cm on one side. Anyone have ideas on how to fix this?

I hate to sound like a dick but did you try and wedge it back in?
Being that the paddle is on the backside of the wheel and not seen often, I would try to use some sort of adhesive and hold it in place with some heavy duty tape until it dries. Then clean up the left over glue with some rubbing alcohol and a tooth pick.

Best of luck

I tried to press it back in and it will easily move back flush. It'll just pop back out when I stop pressing. I was just looking for any other solutions/ideas before I just glued it down.

You're correct--not easily seen but I can feel it sometimes while driving. It annoys me enough to inquire. Thanks for the reply.

It is supposed to just click back in, mine was a pretty tight snug when I replaced my steering wheel. Try to pull it out carefully and press one end in then the other.

I thought the paddle assembly was held in by a screw from the inside. The buttons are just pushed in.

yea, I thought the paddle was bolted down aswell.. if it goes in easily, just glue it. if you need it off, just pull a little, and it should pop off..

You're going to have to pull the airbag off and screw it back in. Really easy fix. 2 bolts on the backside of the steering wheel will loosen the airbag and you should be able to see the screw holding the paddle shifter (or lack there of).

Hope that helps.

+1 it is held in with a screw which must have popped out.

For those that searched and wondered how ths turned out:
After removing the airbag, I found that the paddle shifter plastic mount had cracked. This caused the shifter to be slighly separate from the wheel housing. Some serious downshifting must have been done! Heh, anyway you can see my repair with glue. Remounted the shifter back into the wheel with the screw and holding fine.

They probably over tightened the screw to cause that.

Both of mine just cracked like the above pic. Took the car out yesterday it was still pretty cold, used the shifters no issue and this morning they both had cracks in the plastic.

Can not wait to move back to California, dry environment and always above freezing. may go the glue route or just get new shifters all together.

The G paddles are such a nice upgrade! On the highway I love just double tapping the left paddle and passing instantly, a lot better feedback than the video game buttons that came stock.

I think the E55 has the buttons, my E63 had the paddles stock. Looking for replacements now. Both of mine are cracked. Apparently they don't like being used in super cold weather. FML
