Maserati.
My dad and I went back and forth on this about a month ago before he pulled the trigger, and well, IMO the Maserati was just that much better! The DB9 is the better cruiser, but the Maserati is a better drivers car... If that matters much.
I also tried to talk pops into getting an SL65... Did not quite work!

Db9 all the way. Aston martins are so much more unique and have thought put into them, it's like they were made lovingly, while the maserati is more cold and clinical and just assembled parts. Weird description I know, but that's how I feel.
Although you can get a vanquish S now for the same price range and that car is a HELL of a lot sexier, much more presence on the road!

Yeah they designed it like that so it wouldn't hit the curb.

2006! The vanquish is just the most beautiful car! And a lot more unique than a db9. It was the flagship until the DBS came out

2006 E55 BEAST
Personally I think the new Jag XKR is nicer (curvier) than the DB9 or DBS, but it'll be a while before I pony up any cash for a Jag, Aston or Land Rover product.

astons look nice but are total snoozers to drive. The maser didn't blow my skirt up either.
I'd take the aston out of those two, but neither is what I'd spend my 80k on.

as far as doors, you are correct they point slightly up.
