I didn't know these motors had "cracked rod cap" technology....nice! How about the mains out of curiosity? 2 or 4 bolt cracked? Or standard machined and cross bolted or doweled?

Fracture split connecting rods are common use on a lot of forced induction or high performance engines due to their strength...but it's not really all that exotic. Even a VW 1.8T has fracture split rods and it's a cheap engine.

I doubt the mains are fracture split as they are probably made of steel while the block is made of iron. I have never seen a 55K engine opened up before though but I HIGHLY doubt it.

I agree today it is becoming more common to see this in production engines. But considering it's coming up on 10 years since this platform was designed I was just surprised to see it.... I'm an old muscle car guy, Mopar especially and cap walk is a constant issue.

Steel main caps, 4 bolt mains + 2 in the girdle.

These main bearings are in quite good shape, considering they have 145K on them. I have seen main bearing that have been mutilated, and gouged the crankshaft. For the age and wear, this car has been maintained well.

Main bearings are probably in the same shape but these are the rod bearings. I did oil changes every 5k miles I guess it shows.

The rod bearing play should be between 0.022 to 0.067mm max. Will have my test results of the current play before replacement.

Every engine in the M112/M113 family has this technology, from the 55K down to the very tame 167HP 2.6 liter M112 V6 in the C240 models.
