Straight pipe vs. X-pipe
I am wanting to delete my secondary cats and resonators and I unsure as to go with straight pipes or an X-pipe. What are you thoughts, disadvantages, advantages to both options? Thanks in advance!

I have went through a straight pipe and X pipe setup on my car, the only difference was a 2HP increase with the X pipe and sounded alot smoother. The only real difference imo was sound, Straight pipes sound more raw and X pipe is alot smoother and refined.

High flow resonators in place of 2ndcats then xpipe is my prefered combo. I had straight pipes (2ndary cat delete)
with x pipe for a day but the drone was beating me down...

how did this go? Any pics? So you left the stock headers and mufflers and just pulled the cats, replaced with x-pipe?

Hell yeah....I got that same thing done on my car for $180 with all the parts including the magnaflow X-pipe which may be on the cheap side but still, over $250 for that job seem too high for me.

This is what I'm planning to do to mine. Go to this link. http://www.atspeedmotorsports.com/Me...xhaust_install
The only difference is, I'm definitely running 2 torpedo resonators. I emailed this guy and he said he used 3" x pipe and piping. He said it sounds really good and added power. His email and number are on the site.

that looks sick...
the resonators are those larger parts on the pipes? (I'm new.) what difference does changing them make? - I'm considering altering my stock exhausts

So I went to get this done to my E55, and the muffler shop (been in business in Denver CO for 50+ years) said I would never pass inspection in CO if I removed the 2ndry cats. I believed him and thus only removed the resonator. It did improve sound, and friends have commented while in the car how cool it sounds, but it's no where near as loud or "nice" as some of these other examples on here. Just passing along some info.

Yeah, the two box looking things are the resonators. The resonators on our cars are pretty restrictive. Going with a less restrictive pair is always better. The torpedoes are straight thru.

Muffler guy in Colorado has no clue what he is talking about....there are plenty of members with this specific mod and they are passing emissions! He just does not want to risk the 20k fine if he gets caught modifying a catalytic convertor!!! My .02

I thought I might jump in here as well. This is one of the first mods I am considering on my E55. What if I did go straight pipes all the way back? will it decrease my back pressure and affect performance? Can I go headers all the way back or do I have to get a tune as well? I agree, that setup in the pictures looks sick!

Apparently you've never looked through a factory resonator. It has zero restriction, as in straight through piping, with a small crossover port. Eliminating the stock resonator affects the sound tuning of the exhaust, nothing more.

thanks whirlinfist!
so if I do this setup too (x pipe instead of secondary cats, and straight all the way with torpedo resonators) will it be sounding a lot louder? or is it louder if no x pipe and straight all the way?
