Pulling the trigger on an '09 E63, Have some questions...

It's been a while but I baaack and about to join the party. I'm looking for a Flint Gray(Grey? Ghey?) E63, preferably an '09 with low miles.

I want the thing LOADED but in case I can't find one with everything, what are the must haves?

Not planning to mod the hell out of it, where I've moved there are no real fast roads, but what if anything should I do? I'm certainly going to lower it.

Where can I find gunmetal/black badges, or should I have mine sprayed? I want to gray this thing out.

How is the sound system? Can I hook my iphone up to it?

What should I be paying for a low mile CPO car?

What else do I need to know, and what other questions should I be asking?

citylightva 06-01-2011 11:36 AM

Hard to find one not loaded, but Premium pkg. II is pretty much everything. Unless you like wonky distronic, blah...Only other real options are the Performance Pack. and pano roof, which almost every car has...Sound system is pretty good...I've never heard the hissiness everyone complains about...It should have an iPod jack in the glove box that shows up in the middle of you gauge cluster...Good luck, that's an awesome color..

Cylinder Head 06-01-2011 11:38 AM

DO NOT WANT DISTRONIC.

Thank you for reminding me. That is a useless option.

Yuille36 06-01-2011 12:08 PM

At my local dealership, I seen a iridium silver 09 E63, that I inquired about. It has 11k for miles, asking 63K. It doesn't have distronic, from what I could see, but the seats are black AMG leather. Pretty much all the E63 came fully loaded, I think that distronic, parktronic, panoramic roof, and maybe an ipod adapter were the only options, from what I can remember when I bought my 07 E63. :nix:
The asking price is a bit high for this car, IMHO.
So, I'm just throwing it out there for those interested.:y

W109 W211 6.2L 06-01-2011 12:47 PM

Premium II Covers Everything but....

Side Rear Curtains
Ipod Adapter
Distronic
Pano Roof
P30 Package (You should opt for this my personal opinion, I reget not getting it)
Ohh and Sirius (I think) might be standard with the upgraded 09 radio

Cylinder Head 06-01-2011 12:58 PM

What comes with the P30 package? I'm having a hard time finding ANY P30 cars.

W109 W211 6.2L 06-01-2011 01:09 PM

Lets see

Suspension Setting are different from the factory (50% Stiffer I believe)
The Bolts used in the Front and Rear suspension are stronger
Upgraded Rear Differential
Speed Limiter is removed to 182MPH
Wider Tires on Front and Rear
Larger 19inch Wheels all around
The Steering wheel has Alcantara Inserts

The fastest stock W211 E63 which ran the Quarter in 11.95 or so was a P30 car. I have also read a standard E63 with Tune is as Fast as a Stock P30 car. Also its very RARE and if you can find one it should hold its value better than a standard E63

LSD, recalibrated Airmatic, 18" 2 or 3 piece wheels, 186mph limiter, Alcantara on the steering wheel.

citylightva 06-01-2011 01:30 PM

Not many out there, and I'm pretty sure those owners ordered them for the most part and like Yuille aren't getting rid of them too quickly :)

W109 W211 6.2L 06-01-2011 02:12 PM

030
PERFORMANCE PKG
$8,500.00

18" AMG staggered-width 5-spoke 2-piece wheels
high performance tires
AMG leather & Alcantara steering wheel w/aluminum shift paddles
186-mph top speed limiter
limited-slip differential
AMG Track calibrated Airmatic suspension

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...fCarsQ5fTrucks

Not that far from me its not P30 but its a 09 with less than 5K miles! I believe is the color you are looking for as well

A few minor corrections here....

- Front wheels on P30 E63 is same dimensions as non P30 E63
- Rear wheels on P30 E63 are 9.5 inch instead of 9.0 as on non P30 E63
- All wheels are 18" but they are 2 piece instead of one piece
- Speed Limiter is set to 186 mph
- Steering wheel used to have Alacantra inserts for 2007 P30 packages but in 2008 and 2009, they switched the wheel to Black Series style wheel.
- The fastest stock W211 E63 does not have P30 package. Also, the car that car, which belongs to oldgixxer, is no longer fastest. It is only the quickest. The fastest title got taken away back in 2009. One car trapped slightly higher.

EDIT: oops.... just saw your updated post.

Cylinder Head.... if you ever get a P30 car, make sure you don't get one with the pano roof option. The pano roof adds an additional 140 pounds or so, and the weight is added at the worst possible spot to hinder performance: on the roof :wall:

Thanks for the Update!!!

Great info I had no idea I have never seen a 08 or 09 P30 with a flat bottom!!! I am looking at changing my steering wheel too!

220S 06-01-2011 02:43 PM

You'll be hard pressed to find a P030 2009 car. There were only around 400 of the 2009 E63s sold in the US.

You can "make" a non-P030 car into a P030 car if you wanted to. Just add the LSD (my dealer even said they could add the factory OEM version) and the stiffer Airmatics (makes me wonder if that may even be able to be done with SDS; I've never checked the parts numbers between non-P030 struts and P030 struts.) You can even buy the P030 steering wheel if you want one. You can delimit the car via the ECU and factory P030 wheels are available.

If you do end up wanting Distronic, you can add Distronic later. Steve from BenzNL can do it as a factory OEM install.

But what the 2009 gives you over the 2007-8 is the way better COMAND system. It comes with the current hard drive system and with a MUCH better Nav, audio gateway, full voice control, bluetooth, etc.. It's worth it, imho.

Thanks.... yeah the 2008 and 2009 P30 packages come with flat-bottom (no alacantra) steering wheel. Also, they come with carbon fiber interior trim, which was not available on 99% of 2007 P30 packages. I believe only the last week of production got those.

Welcome back, CH! You've been missed.

If Active Multi-Contour/Drive Dynamic Seats are available on the E63, get it. One of my favorite options, on my W211.

Have you and your girl popped out any puppies yet? If so, get the rear and side window shades.

The new C63 coupe (that the automotive press is raving about) will be marketed in the US with the glass roof. What's interesting is that Tobias Moers (AMG head of development) said they went all out with the C63 and with no compromises, but the marketers still insisted on the glass roof. He says it doesn't really affect the curb weight or center of gravity, and claimed that people won't notice it. But he admitted that did feel it when he had the car on the track.

Hey buddy!! I don't think the seats are available. I just found a car that's PERFECT in the CPO inventory but the dealer can't locate it in their system. Hope it's not sold.

No puppies yet. I'll keep you posted.

Welcome back to the electronic jungle.

I think everyone has answered the questions you asked.

I personally like the pano, especially on a white car. 140 lbs extra on a powerful sled is no biggie since you can always get a faster track car. Plus you got your M5 if you really need a 4 door handler.

Try to get the 030 pack if possible.

DAGREEKNYC 06-01-2011 03:25 PM

my car went to Auction i was told , How can i locate it ????

Since the roof is smaller on the C-Class, the weight addition maybe less than on the E-Class :nix:

However, I do know that on the E-Class, there is about 120 to 140 lbs added from the pano roof. Also, three years ago, AMG had confirmed through the Private Lounge that the pano roof option added extra weight to the car. I've personally driven one with and one without pano roof and although I love the pano roof option, I would get on non-AMG Mercedes NOT on an AMG.

FYI the pano roof is not part of and not related to the P30 option what so ever. So he can always just find a P30 car with no pano roof.... best of both worlds :D

Hey Vic.

I think one person touched on price but otherwise there's been some good info shared no doubt.

I haven't had a good experience so far with MB Dealers. Motivated buyer putting down a huge chunk of cash and I can't get a call back from anyone.

I feel the same about the pano. I rarely use it, too. Have you ever seen a MB with pano fully opened while following it on the road? It looks weird with a big section of glass sitting on top of the back section of glass. If I could have one without, I'd definitely go without it. I couldn't find one without it, and when I looked in early 2009 I couldn't order the W211 anymore. So I'm stuck with it.

I'd like to see a complete sunroof delete option with AMGs (Porsche gives you that option.)

Too bad the C63 coupe didn't go with a CF roof. Apparently the marketers thought the pano will sell more cars (at least in the US)

I think I know this :) I bought a new W211 E55 a long time ago in a galaxy far away (2004)

And knowing CH- he doesnt need the extra tenth in the quarter or a few seconds at the local track... we drive luxo cruisers not sports cars. :)

Ok here are some of the latest auction numbers for 2009's... remember these are lane prices and dont included auction fees, transport, recon, etc. This will give you some perspective. There are not a lot of sales--- inventories might be light (I said might because leases are not up yet and repos are down bigtime).

Agreed. Although for the more addicted enthusiasts (no names :D), driving our luxury cruisers as sport cars or putting them a step ahead of the rest of the pack gets very exciting :zoom:
