I just tried mine again(at 10 PM) with my main remote that I use everyday, and it worked great from about six feet away. However, it absolutely will not work during the day. I've tried multiple times in the last week and nothing. I will replace the batteries in the remote and try again. If it still doesn't work, then I give up. Sadly this is probably the only cool feature the car has that I actually want to use.

For those of you who have the infrared sensor in your door handles, this should work. However, the sensor is prone to fail with bad solder joints due to door slamming. You can either replace the part within the door handle assembly or repair it. I very carefully dug out the potting material on the sensor part where the infrared component points outwards and re soldered the bad joints, and then re potted. They are easy to remove from the door. On the back edge of the door level with the door handle should be a rubber plug. Behind here is one screw that holds the infra-red assembly part in place. Unplug the cable, and pull out the sensor from the outside, and replace or repair. Be careful not to drop the screw down into the door. Mine has a plastic catch to hold the screw when its unscrewed, yours may not.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I DON'T have keyless go and can do this with my key FOB. I have an '04 E55 and it works both to roll the windows (and sunroof) down and up as well.
Super handy for the hot AZ weather.

This feature works 50% of the year , must be tempreture related " Summer convenience " , any one knows if this is not True ? How can we verify that this window/sunroof openning feature ( using the fob key) doesnot depend on the temreture inside the car ??
This is my experience with it , I wish that the design Engineer would respond, hahahhah
Why else would they call it " SUMMER CONVENIENCE " ?

It's pretty obvious after reading this thread that the ir on the door handle goes bad... Hence why its hit or miss... On my 05 e55 the feature does not work... Maybe ill pull it apart one of these days.

Well at least I'm not the only one. It does work 1 out of 20 times on my 2008 E550 but I just don't understand that on my 2001 E320 it always worked, everytime. I guess as time goes by they find a way to make these sensors cheaper and less hardy. I've also tried the trick with the handle and it doesn't work for me. Oh well

Shield the door handle IR sensor
Here's something to consider. Both of my remotes work fantastic at night(worked from the back of the car), but during the day it's hit or miss. One of them wouldn't roll down the windows this morning even with an overcast sky, my hand shielding the sensor, and the remote 2" away from the sensor. The best thing you can do is get fresh batteries and say a prayer.
My CLK320 Summer opener works great at night, but never in daylight. Then once I smothered the door handle with my body to make the IR sensor see darkness and squeezed the fob between me and the door handle. Poof, it worked, and now it does every time I use that strange body language to enter my car. The IR sensor must be dazzled by daylight and needs to be darkened to work, at least on my car.

I have a 2007 E63 with keyless start. When I tried this in the garage no joy. But when my car was in the 90 degree sun flooded parking lot it worked. Just held down the unlock on the key. Tried to put the widows sunroof to closed position with the lock held down no joy. But I think the temperature in the car or outside must be a factor.
