P30 Guys With Stock Wheels - What Tires Are You Running?

I'm going to pull the trigger on some new tires soon but before I do I wanted to check with the board for some opinions.

For those of you with the P30 package and still running the stock wheels, what size (and brand) tires are you running? Since P30s have a slightly wider wheel in the rear, I was wondering if anyone was running a wider tire on them or thought this was a good/bad idea.

Additionally, if you are running a wider tire in the rear, are you using a different size tire in the front to compensate? I'm concerned with having variation between the front and rear tire diameters beyond the factory settings that may have an adverse effect on ABS or traction control.

I ran Goodyear F1 Asymetrics the last 2 sets and was happy with all apsects except the wear on the front. The design of the tire with an inner sidewall design that causes a horrible wear pattern on the front. I consider this a defect.

Argue this point in this thread, not here.

Now I run Hankook V12 and like them fine. They are a little more "wiggly" due to the smaller blocks than the Asymetrics. I am sure this will reduce as they wear.

I have also run Falken FK-452 and never liked them. Never gave a smooth ride and traction was no great shakes.

If you want to go crazy for one set, get Kankook R-s3. Not for heavy rain. Insane dry traction. They stick like a 50 rated tire when warm, even through their wear rating is 140. They will give at least 0.2 off your 0-60 times. I would expect rear wear to be half of the V12s.

As for the rear tire size. I run a 275/35-18 vs the 265/35-18. Speedometer still perfect. Absolutely no problem on traction control. From the specifications on the V12, there is only a 1% difference. The Hankook R-s3 is not available in XL load rating in 275/35-18 so I run stock width. From others, I have heard these run wide anyway.

I think you could go all the way to 285/35-18 since that is approved on 9.5" and is only a 2.1% difference in Revs/Mile.

I have 74k on my car and use up rears in 12k. Fronts should go 25k (barring tire design flaws)

I ran Michelin PS2s in both sizes (265/35/18 and 275/35/18) and LOVED every minute of it. The fronts last a long time (22k miles) but the rears tend to go out quickly - especially when you drag race a lot

The PS2s are perfect for this car: very high traction tire, not too bad on wet surfaces, and very quiet on the road.
