E55 or 350z TT
Hello All,
I am in a pickle. I got a new job about 2 months ago and I am in the market for a new car. I previously owned a 350z and i loved it. I also drove my cousins E55 and I also loved it. I dont really know which one I should get as enjoy both cars. I dont really mind the 2 seater but also wouldnt mind the sedan either. My limit is around 30k. I plan to keep this car for atleast 4 years or so as a DD. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks
Edit: should I wait a bit until prices go down of E55s? I have noticed they have shot up in price in the last 6 months. I am guessing its because of summer and the prices of gas have gotten lower.

Sorry for not explaining. I would buy a 350z for around 16-20 and spend the rest to build my engine and get a nice TT setup.

Ok, so if I decide to get the e55, any year would be good except for 03? I also see a bunch around 50-80k miles. How are those in terms of lasting 4 years or so. Lets say they were spirited driven.

2005 E55 AMG
I previously owned a G35 and supercharged it and ran it up to 15+psi ( almost 430whp on an automatic with 20" wheels ) and eventually blew the stock engine ( the tune was spot on...the engine is just weak ). While rebuilding the engine, I was torn between going full blown or simply selling the car and get an E55. The reason I got the E55 was because I put over 10K into the car, just to have it go as fast as a neat stock E55...and the E55 is MUCH more car. Right now, I've blown the doors off equally powerful 350Z/G35's while I only have about $4K into my mods while they have well over $10K.
Bang for the buck, the VQ35DE is one of the worst engines you can mod. It's stupid weak ( 400-450whp is about the limit before you blow the engine which is pretty lousy compares to a lot of 4 cylinders and not even in the same league when compared to a lot of V6's ). Heck, I got more power with less money out of my VW 1.8T than I did with my G35. That's pretty sad.
Now...if it's a VQ35HR or a VQ37VHR then those engines are FARRRR stronger....yet they still cost an arm and a leg to make fast.

VQ altho good/ok motor not a BENZ you should never compare any Jap car to a BENZ, in my opinion. If you can afford a $90 drive way oil change and are ready to take the E55 to a indy shop for when it throws codes which can be often and may not go away. Then take the E55 no brainer but make sure you are not backing your way into a 100k car.
On a side note Volvo S60R might be the best of both worlds, super reliable motor, Turbo, AWD, Manual and a super sleeper! (Love that Car!)
P.S. 05 to 06 E55 is the better car over the 03 to 04 E55 (As a "Benz Fan Boy" I will tell you Mercedes Benz made terrible cars between 2001 and Early 2006, and the car you purchase between that time frame can be a horrible ownership experience. There are cars that are good tho, you should look at VMI, # of Owners and how many miles.) Lots of owners and low miles is typically a bad sign.
Miles on the AMG cars doesnt mean much, I have read cars well into 130k miles running very strong, the issue is the maintaince and if it has been maintained.
You dont want distronic its crap on the W211 cars

Thanks for the info guys! I am defiantly leaning towards the e55. It's just a matter of finding one i like. So what I'm looking at as of now :
05+
Under 60k Miles
Pano
Keyless Go
Lighting Package
Im looking for a car with those specs for around 25-30 MAX. Does that seem pretty doable?

I also wanted to ask how is the market for e55's at the auctions nowadays? My cousin picked his up in early 09 for 19.3k. It has Pano and was at 55k miles at the time.

I just love the sleeper aspect of my E55. It makes the killing that much more fun. I 4 door luxury car with Ferrari acceleration.
Just doesn't get better.

Every blown (SC or TT) VQ35 i have ever known has literally blown. You are spending serious dollars (think RX7 or Supra Money) when it comes to modding that car that far. You are way better off buying a E55 and with the money you save, buy a S2000 for daily.

Hello All,
I am in a pickle.

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
Depends on what you are looking for. If you want a nice handling quick car and not worried so much about uniqueness or the interior, then the 350ZTT. If you will have a few bucks for maintenance as parts are $$$, monster torque, and not something you see everyday with 4 seats and a nicer interior..............E55.

Both are good if you have one you will wish you had the other. With nissans you can get dirty and do most of the work yourself but with E55 you will have to take it to dealer for most issues. Just make sure you have your behind covered with extended warranty or else you will get robbed.
