Thank you for the compliment. I agree the only thing that the E63 needs is a nice set of wheels and maybe a CF front spoiler and rear diffuser, and thats it.

so, some douchebag at one of your local car meets says that your car is ugly? I would have told him his wife/gf was ugly. I wouldn't even pay it any mind. Probably a hater. What did he have? A Civic Type R?

He drive a 2002 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R Nur, like I said it's not a car I can critisize as I do respect it, trouble is after what he said I don't respect him. It's funny because he instantly became an expert and said "I prefer the 01-03 S Class, it's much more beautiful", I didn't bother explaining that they're completely different cars and completely different purpose because I just didn't have the energy

IMO W211 styling will prove to be one of the most tasteful and timeless designs Mercedes ever did. It evolved the W210 styling, improved on it in every way, and W210 was one of the best looking Mercedes of it's day. IMO W212 styling doesn't come close to W211 and will not stand the test of time.

I'm unclear on the controversy. He's entitled to his opinion. For example, many people think the Porsche 911 is timeless. I own and drive a 996TT (2004) and personally think it is butt ugly, but I still like the car for what it is.
I also think the W212 is hideous. Others don't.

The one car that, I find isn't good looking is the Porsche Panamera. But, to each his own. Everyone needs to respect the opinions of others. You don't always have to agree.

I guess if you're into those egg yolk eyes and a truly funky interior.
Porsche learned fast and cleaned up the 996 into the 997 (which looks closer to a 993), so they wouldn't lose a whole generation of customers. Of course the IMS and RMS issues on the non-Metzger derived blocks of the 996s (M96) all ready did that

I personally like them equally. I love the 996 look as I love the 993 and 997. Those are my 3 favorite body style ( the 993 being the least liked, while the 996 and 997 being just about equal ).

I knew my M5 was ugly, but I also know my E63 is absolutely gorgeous. I wasn't sure about Flint Grey before I saw the car in person. Insane color. I could have bought either a W211 or W212. I decided on a perfect W211 with a warranty extended until the end of time.

I didn't buy mine for it's looks. I bought it for the all the practical reasons like, four doors, four seats, safety and most of all, 512 lbs/ft. of torque.
Been there with the, "look at me", performance cars and much prefer the stealthy look that nobody really sees. There's nothing like rolling in a 12 second sedan that the cops don't even look at. It's like getting away with murder.
I can't drive around the block in either of the cars in my sig without someone wanting to race or the cops taking a hard look.

I think that not all Mercedes Cars look great but I still love the Benz look over most cars out there. Lets not compare a Benz sedan to a Ferrari or Lambo. But if you look at the the CtS-V, the 5 series, or any other sedan out there I think the E55 has it all, beautiful inside and out, with a few exterior mods and some wheels you are rocking one awesome sled.

Like others have said, W211 E classes aren't ugly, just dated. The W211 AMGs are more attractive but still aging. Now, if I pretend that I don't own one, I still couldn't count with 2 hands the number of times people have complimented her in the past year alone, all the while living/working in the financial districts of L.A. and San Francisco where everyone and their newborn are superficial. I guess some folks still think it's a nice car.

Honestly, I don't like ANY of the S Classes, if that matters any?
Now about the E60 M5, how come most people say it's ugly
I saw one today and test drove one when I got the W211 and it's a very beautiful car, much easier to make it look good. It just has that sharp look, photos don't do it justice. Problem is the gearbox is no where near as nice for daily as the auto in the Merc and the interior isn't as good. Other than that it's a fantastic looking thing. Much better than the new one, the TT V8 which I think has ruined the M5 legacy, that V10 will no doubt become a CLASSIC
