Replacing engine cover emblem with wheel center cap?
Hello,
My detailer was a bit too aggressive under the hood and the brittle plastic trim ring around the mesh emblem on the plastic engine cover broke apart. I have the mesh Mercedes logo, which is still in perfect shape, but from what I have read on here, the emblem and trim ring cannot be purchased separately and to be replaced you must purchase the entire engine cover.
I am looking into something to replace it, as the empty hole looks horrible, and it looks like wheel center caps are about the same size (~3"). I figure that the mounting piece from the cap can be removed and the remaining emblem be affixed with double-sided tape.
Has anyone done this, replaced the stock mesh emblem with a wheel cap, and what were the results? Should the fact the wheel cap is solid be a concern, while the mesh cap allows airflow through the engine cover?
I am considering something like this as a low-cost alternative:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4PCS-...item4cf7641435
Any advice or feedback would be helpful. As a sidenote, if you happen to have the part number for that entire engine cover piece including the emblem, can you pass it along just in case.
Thanks!
Steve
