Any body re-using their stock intercooler?

For those with upgraded HE or trunk reservoir, I was curious if you found a way to re-use the stock intercooler?

you can run an aux HE in conjunction with the stock intercooler, that's what I'm going for I believe Shardul has this setup as well.

Re use stock intercooler? Don't you have to use the stock intercooler regardless?

Edit oh heat exchanger. Yes you can run 2 small ones in series with each other. I decided to do one big one instead.

Can you by chance post a pic? Where did you put the stock intercooler in relation to the larger HE?

Likewise, the larger HE I have does not allow me to reuse the stock intercooler in the same location.

Anybody re-using the stock intercooler but in a different location?

The stock one won't fit because the EC is too big. There is no room to fit the oem one.

I'm sure that the two of you already know this but if you run a rear tank you won't need to run a 2nd heat exchanger.

Heck, as it is right now my temps are pretty decent even on the stock cooling circuit.

Yes. I was trying to find a way to re-use that stock intercooler that is just sitting in my garage closet. I was thinking of running the lines from my soon to be installed rear tank to the stock intercooler then to the front of the car. In the wagon, the under the rear bumper, there is space between the rear bumper and the spare tire space that can actually hold the stock intercooler. I tried it last night and it fits, fits with extra room. Maybe using the stock intercooler in that fashion and in that location might not make any difference or much of a difference for the hassle. But, since I have to be down there to install the tank, lines and so forth I might as well give it a try.

One annoying thing about my bigger I/C is that its prob 5x the weight of the OEM one... and thats empty so its not fluid volume.

I am not that convinced a bigger H/E is necesary over a OEM H/E if you running a decent rear tank setup.

Technically, an intercooler is a heat exchanger and a heat exchanger is an intercooler.

We are talking about the one that sits in the bumper.

Techinically the "thing" in the bumper is a radiator, and the "thing" under the supercharger is an intercooler.

I always think of it as a supercharger aftercooler myself. The heat exchanger's behind the bumper. I don't have room for 2 in my car unless I get real inventive.

i always thought of the heat exchanger as the heat exchanger that exchanges the heat from the hot coolant that is coming from the intercooler and then returns it to the intercooler :P
