Need Brakes

Dealer quoted me over 500 just to replace the front sets of pads. What are my options? Just pay it? Or can I go after market. Please chime in.
2005 E55amg

Thanks.

Search and you'll find plenty of option for aftermarket pads like Akebono, Porterfield and others.

Are you handy ? can diy small stuff? pads are less than $100. Brakes on the amg are pretty easy to do. Disalbe ABC, get a punch to knock out the pins, take out old pads, lube new pads, replace sensor for peace of mind, put pins back and good to go.

Do you have to bleed them after replacing pads and rotors, or can you merely insert the pads with the calipers off the rotor without having to push the pistons in? Reason I ask is because I would like to not only replace the pads, but the rotors as well.

none
You dont have to blled the brakes unless you disconnect the lines.
Usually I just replace the front pads/sensor the first time, and the second time you can do all pads and rotors .

I recommend the Akebono products, less dust but eats up the rotors faster. Before I had Porterfield RS-4s before, they make a clicking noise when engaging from Park to Reverse or Reverse to Drive.

replacing the disc pads on the e55 amg was the easiest brake pad replacement i have ever done. do exactly what novae55 said. I also reccomend akebono pads no more dirty wheels.

I just had the dealer replace pads and rotors up front maybe 2,000 miles ago. I am cursing myself for not going with aftermarket of some sort. The damn brakes squeal like crazy. The dealer says it is normal because they are semi-metallic. The only way to make them stop is heat them up good. The damn slotted *******s cool off too fast and start squealing again. Oh, and don't even get me started on the notorious brake dust. The other day, some guy looks at my car and says "nice car, I would think you would take better care of it from the looks of those brakes you haven't washed in months." I had just wiped down the wheels a day earlier.
