E63 tranny flush versus total fluid exchange
Hi guys, I have a question my 07 e63 is almost reaching 50k and been wanting to due a tranny fluid change. In my old e430 instead of doing a flush i did a complete 15qt fluid change by removing one of the lines that go to the radiator and would crank the car and expel 2 qt at a time and would replace it until the fluid came out nice and red at 15qt total/it completely remove all the old fluid from the torque converter/and most likely limited particles from going to area not needed unlike the flush machine use by stealerships. What do you guys think?? is it possible to do it to e63 or just pay the stealership to do the flush which probably would be 5-7 quart of tranny fluid change. oh i forgot the diff axle??

The only way to relace the fluid is through the drain tube.
The dealer drains the oil, pulls the pan, replaces the level tube which they broke off to drain the oil, changes the filter, replaces the gasket and non-re-useable screw/bolts. Then with a system that pumps the oil @30C back into the pan through the drain opening, they re-fill. They run the engine and tranny to ensure a 30C temp through the ODB2 port. Once at 30C, they open the drain plug and add if necessary or let overflow come out until it dripping slows. Then, close it up.
What you suggest might be possible if you had a way to force the oil into the drain opening. The hoses you mention are visible on the transmission.

Look at 722.9 training material.
I would simply have the dealer do it every 40K. You are 10K late.

thanks for the response, so on e63 there is no dipstick tube/or filler tube??so you need a special tool to get the fluid back in??
so i should paid the dealership/but will never get all the old fluid out!!
that sucks!!
from my understanding the torque converter will contained alot of the old fluid.
the way i did it with the e430 work out well i wish i could do to e63

Read the docs in the link. No dipstick, no nothing.
I wil have the dealer simply service mine every 40k.
I know how you feel. I did my Volvo exactly the way you did your old E.

Mercedes are making it so, that you can't do it yourself anymore. And that you have to bring it in, to the stealership for servicing. ;(

- Brake pads are easy: Fronts require a single socket wrench, drift pin (screw driver), and small hammer. As well as something to remove overflow from the brake fluid reserviour if you ever topped off. Rears don't need the wrench.
- Brake fluid change like any other car
- Oil change - like my 1970 MGB, but with an additional plastic panel, but without a oil filter mounted opening down
- Diff fluid change like any other car
- Cabin Air filter - no crawling under the dash... easy
- Brake disks - a little more difficult, mainly due to the size of the calipers. I will do a DIY some time this year.
The only thing I could have done myself I had the dealer do was service the pano roof. I could not find the proper information on how to do it. Anyone?
So the fact every 40K I need to spend $250 is not a huge deal. I do admit it is annoying not to be able to change it all out.

Be careful!
Many MB dealers have not invested in the equipment necessary to circulate the fluid through the system.

Please do post. I am interested in what hoses they disconnect to do the flush. Also do they do the filter change first? Also, ask the dealers reasoning for doing something beyond what MB recommends.

well i doubt that anyone in my dealer will give me full detail but i will try to find some info and what do you mean with doing something beyond what MB recommends?

if you read the documents in the link I sent, there is no capability to flush the transmission. The only thing they train the dealerships to do is drain the pan, change the filter, and refill.
So if the dealer is finding a way to do a full flush, it is something they are doing on their own.

Dealer is trying to sell me a flush as well, but the PDF in the links says no recommended service?!?! They also told me they wanted to do Plugs, Air Filter (Im doing myself) and Brake Flush. Are they just trying to get in my wallet?

US Service 20 once at 40,000 miles. Underside of vehicle. Automatic transmission - oil and filter change. 2702
Ask them how they perform the flush and ask them if they change the filter before or after the flush. To really flush it will take a minimum of 10qts and likely 12qts.
Plugs are changed at 60K or 5yr and are easy to do. See my DIY with pictures.
Brake flush is every 2 years, not mileage dependant, so you are due.
And yes, they ALWAYS are looking to get in your wallet.
