You know how you floor it from the light and send smoke over half the globe because only one wheel is spinning? This will cover the rest with two wheels. Seriously, will assist considerably on the street on street tires with launches as power is sent to both wheels.

it doesnt do anything for shifting... it helps with traction and helps prevent wheel spin by transfering power evenly accross the 2 rear wheels whereas in an open differential you get 100% of power transfering to the path of least resistance, i.e the spinning wheel

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential7.htm

its a compromise between open diff and locking diff

Anyone know how much modification is needed for the QDF9V2 - it is supposed to be much stronger - and fits the same other cars - but all I can find out is that for our Diffs - some form of additional modification is possibly needed...

(I'm calling my dealer now to see how much to install - this is one job I do not fancy doing...)

The QDF7V is for W210 and some of the very first W211 E55s (03 models) with 10 bolt ring gear. The QDF9V1 is more common and what many of us need (12 bolt ring gear). It is also used by many in the Hemi world.

I read a thread back on the Hemi forum, they had to grind away a lot of the diff case to make it fit in there. I have yet to see someone destroy the standard QDF9V1.

Just as some added info, if we asked the forum members how many of the V1's have broken and I'm confident that in the 55K's the short answer is zero. Unless you are going to beef up your axles considerably you are wasting time and money and should just stick to the V1. The Hemi guys use it because they are pumping more power and have the bigger axles btw.

From what I gathered the Hemi guys broke them due to an axle breaking and the damage was the result of 'bias' stress on the unit and even then beating the hell out of it.

This is a great deal! You guys should've had these deals when I bought all my mods.

Guys this LSD is directly responsible for my 60ft. times. Before the Quaiffe, my best 60ft. was 1.60 and after install my best time (so far) is 1.49. I had no mod/tune changes. One of my best mods.

My build date is 9/03 and it has the w210 axles. I had my vin looked up, but I've also been told the w210 axles bolt up on each side of the dif, while the w211 axle slides inside and you wont see the bolts.

Anyone have a spare differential housing laying around they want to sell? I've got 3.55's ordered so I guess I'll jump on this offer and build another diff.
