I found a tray off of a 2003 E320 and it’s very small, barely fit my Oakley. I left the compartment bare. It’s deep and adding a felt liner will work if you really care how it looks. I used a female fiber optic loop to get the power lid to work with the push button (George noneja idea). I routed my iPhone Charge cord through it to plug in for Apple car play. Love the conversation of gutting the changer.

I don't know what the pioneer wiring harness looks like, I installed the extrons unit. But there should be serperate aux power which needs to only be on with the key (ACC or AUX 12V labeled something like that) and also a permanent 12V source wire that does not shut with the key (labeled power/battery/etc).
