What's the secret to getting plasti dip right?
I sprayed 4 coats on my grill and it's bumpy and uneven. Lucky I didn't spray my wheels yet.

its dries to a textured feel , but keep apply light coats and see if it smoothen out .. Also removing it once its cured isnt always easiest thing ..doesnt peel off like a sticker . you will end up with residue stuf .. personally almost better off to have it professionally painted and save time and hassle in some cases

Here's one of my stock E55 wheels that I did in Plasti-Dip to see how it would look.
It looked a bit more textured in person but wasn't too bad. Even my car guy friends thought it looked good for what it was. Overall it was a PITA to remove. It was quick in the spots where I put it on thick (the flat surfaces) but the other areas took a lot of rubbing with my finger. I'd say it took me a little over an hour to clean it off the wheel. I think it's a good product to try out if you're on the fence about getting your wheels powder coated black. I would not want to try and remove it from something like my Brabus Monoblock V's that I have now. That would take way too long.
When I sprayed it on I just did a lot of light coats with about a 10-15 minute dry time in between. The wheel was sitting in the sun the whole time as well. Prep was wiping it down with a damp rag and drying it off. I never mounted the wheel and it just sat in the living room. Considering how well it was on there, I don't doubt that it would have held up to some driving quite well. It took about 2/3 of a can to do just that wheel. If I were to do it again I'd use a whole can.
I currently have my grill Plasti-Dipped and it's holding up really well after 2,500+ miles of mostly (~70%) freeway driving. The only prep I did was wiping it down with some water first.
Pic showing the grill.
