Sound of some one playing marbles in the engine bay...

It is actually on my G55.. but figured with all the previous bearing and pulley chat here.. some one may know the answer.

I could call it a tick tick sound.. but its more of a two marbles hitting each other sound. Its not very consistent.. I have sprayed some WD40 into the pulley to see if maybe it was a bad bearing or something.. and it actually fixes the problem for weeks on end.

Its back now.. any ideas? Bearing in the pulley maybe??

Thanks.

what is the "ping"? If thats a possiblity... i'll check it out. It does sound like its coming from the pulley just to the left of the sc'r.

I use to get this in my 2001 Ford Lightning all the time. But I had aggressive timing in my ECU. Did you fill up with bad gasoline (sub 89 octane)? Does it only happen under acceleration (WOT, from take off?). If its under acceleration, do not push the car or your risk damage to the motor. I would take it in to the dealership or to your mechanic and have them check your plugs. If the noise is consistent and not under acceleration chances are its a bad bearing like they were talking about.

Do you hear it at idle or when accelerating? Can the motor even detonate at idle? Be careful here. Let us know.

When I modded the engine in my Mustang years ago, I had it tuned, and accidentally put 87 into it instead of 93. And it pinged like crazy, but only when I gave it gas while moving.

I hope that is not what you're experiencing. If so, do not drive it anymore until you can get it fixed.

Check this out, and see if this is what you're hearing.

Its the pulley for sure.

I will try and get some video.... but i blew some compressed air into the backside of the pulley and it went away. I'll film it when i hear it again.
