Trying to help a friend out with getting a car.
So my friend is in the market for a new ride, somehow he does not see sense of paying $20K plus for a high milage E55 which is what I told him to get. He said his mind is set on the 03-04 Cobra. He is not looking for a Daily Driver, he is looking for a car with some power. He was also looking at C5 Z06s and does not want to pay $40k for a C6 Z06. His budget is probably mid 20s or so. What do you guys think? I know that the Cobra is a solid car, outside it looks like any other mustang, and the interior is just ![Puke](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/puke.gif)
If he was to get the Cobra he will def. do a Kenny Bell Blower and a few other things. From what I read a Cobra with Intake and only catback with a Mammoth 2.8 Blower made over 600rwhp on pump gas.
I still rather be driving my 55k equipped SL, but that car does sound solid.

He will need larger injectors, new intake air system "JTL",catback, and a upgraded cooling system to.
Thats just 19 lbs of boost where as I can go alot higher but for the street 19lbs works good.
Mine has just about 20,000 miles on it and if he is interested in buying one complete let me know I might sell mine.

E55 AMG, CL65 AMG, S8, S6, E30 M3, Z3MC
I'm a HUGE fan of my CL. He could grab a CL600 or CL55 AMG for around that price.
Here is an alright looking 04 CL55 AMG with 30K miles..![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
But from the sounds of things, it seems like he may be leaning more in the direction of American Muscle.

Well. They are 2 totally different cars. Cobra will be less expensive to maintain and parts are more readily available and cheaper. Cobra will handle more boost better than the E55. And uses a T56 6 speed over the Automatic of the E55.
Problems? Most 03/04 Cobra’s have been beat to hell. It still uses essentially the same chassis from 1979. It’s a Mustang, and does not have the amenities that you get from a Mercedes.
E55 will be nicer in every aspect. More expensive to maintain. And way more expensive to Mod.
All about personal preference at this point.

No doubt..... if your friend has driven both cars and can't appreciate the difference between them, you might as well let him buy the Ford. There's no sense dragging someone kicking and screaming into buying an E55.
I'm reminded of the famous scene from Pulp Fiction when Lance (Eric Stoltz) is describing the three types of heroin to Vincent Vega....
" ...this one's a little more expensive...But when you shoot (drive) it, you'll know where that extra money went. Nothing wrong with the first two (the Mustang) It's real, real, real, good sh*t. But this one's (the E55) a fooking madman."
[with my apologies to Quentin Tarantino]![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Prob not as much HP, but why not a C32. A lot cheaper to own than a E55? If ur mechnically inclined, the car wouldnt be too much trouble to work on.
Also for under $20K you can find a pretty good single turbo third generation RX7 that will give that mustang a run for its money.
Dirt cheap would be a SC300 with a GTE Swap and 6sp tranny that would be the highway king.
S2000 with a single turbo kit would offer daily driveability and very easy to work on.
GTOs and the previous CTS-V also come to mind. Especially with a little more money so you can strap a Vortech to it.
Mitsu EVOs as well

Would definitely not recommend getting a high milage E55. Can you imagine how much love there is going to be between the two of you if the car has any major problems?
If he's interested in an American car, I bought a used 2008 Mustang GT with 25k miles, custom wheels, exhaust, and a couple other minor mods for about 2 years ago for about 14K. With 20k im sure he can get a real nice one.
Drove it for about 6 months and couldn't get over the crappy interior and sold it for a little more than the 14k when I bought it.

C5 Z06's and other vettes are nice but,
I like a little more metal around me![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
You can buy a cheap mustang/cobra and by the time you finish modding it like you want, you have major bucks in it to.
Its all a matter of preference as I bought mine at 11085 miles and did all the work myself so I knew it was right.
Just can't toss a KB on top and expect it to live or perform correctly unless you do ALL the supporting mods.
