THE E55 STILL HAS SOME COJONES
I had an interesting encounter on Saturday afternoon heading west on 322 up to State College. Was just cruising along in the fast lane doing 85-90 when I came upon a bright orange brand new looking Dodge SRT8 Challenger. The weather was perfect and the road fairly clear, The sound from the Dodge exhaust was quite impressive and I could not help but wonder how the two of us would match up? Well the driver of the Challenger must have been thinking the same thing cause after a minute or two he romped on it and off he went, it took a minute or two to get the E55 going but we closed the distance to a few hundred yards and I could see he was hanging on in the sweeping turns when we were hitting triples. Well a nice long straight away and he moves right and I stay on it and start pulling along side and hear the Dodge's big motor just roaring and as I quickly glance over I notice this huge bulge on the hood and that quick he gets off it and glides off on the exit ramp. Now I am not so well versed on the SRT products but I never saw one with a huge bulge on the hood like that, what is that car packing underneath that hood? I know we were getting close to my limiter but the E55 was still pulling pretty hard and I think the Challenger was a bit shocked to see me still hangin around all black and sinister looking. Oh yeah this car is so sweet to take on long highway runs!

2003 E55 & 2014 GL550
Still makes me smile. She was designed and dreamed of (2001-2002) before the best parts of the new camaro/challenger/charger/new style stang/ CTSV even ran down their mamas leg.
Friggin Z06 at the time (2002) pushed a whopping 405hp.
Hats off to Benz/AMG for jumpstarting the HP wars to what we have today.
No E55 then, no WAY you would have ZR1 today.

The new SRT-8's have 470 HP stock with a 6.4L (392) block but with some fairly easy mods it could be pushing 525 - 550 which does put it in our league. It weighs about the same as well around 4,100 lbs.
Personally I LOVE the look for the SRT-8 Challenger (the Charger less so), but when you think about the fact that our E55's were engineered designed in the late 90's early 2000's and 10+ years later, they're still very competitive on the HP/technology front, that's pretty amazing.
Hat's off to AMG!

Actually they are 470hp and 470 torque.
So same HP but E55 still have 50 more torque, plus E55 is underrated hp.
It should be 491 like S55 or SL55
So 2011 SRT8 is about the same performance as E55 but 2010 SRT8 no match at all (425hp 425 torque)

w211 E55 was ahead of it's time. I still don't fret running into srt's on the freeway b/c the car just pulls like a maniac. My basically stock (muffler delete is only performance mod) even pulled on a 360 modena until we hit around 130mph he SLOWLY creeping. took a stock 996 turbo out as well, that guy was pissed losing to a 4-door luxury sled

that's very true, but freeway pulls on a manual isn't exactly rocket science either

new TT engines are stronger and faster.
you will hear soon about it. as i already forgot about how fast my modded E55k was after driving and racing with my stock CLS63TT performance package.

lol i ripped a new camaro SS a new one last night with my stock CLS55... we were driving down a local road and he was pacing me just going a little faster than the speed limit. then we pulled up at a red light side by side and he revved his engine... i guess he didnt know what V8 Kompressor meant lol... so i just waited for the light to turn green and stepped on it. i took off on him from the start and took it up to around 140MPH and let off. he stayed behind me about 2-3 bus lenghts the whole time then i slowed down, he got in the next left turning lane, flashed his high beams at me a couple of times and turned off...
