After heavy smell of gas i seen car was dripping gas

After a few days of smelling a heavy smell of gas I seen the car was actually leaking gas! Took it to the dealer they want $2000. They saod harness, fuel pump , it has broken seals. They now said they will do the job for $1500 and im still trying to work them down. I did search and always try the diy self but this is just out my comfort zone. Any1 getting any better quotes for repairig a job like this ?

if its the fuel sending unit, it will cost about $500 or so for the part and $400 for labor. You have one on each side, DS and PS. I had to get my DS replaced for $900. There is a DIY on here if you can get the right part and try it yourself. But i didnt want to mess around with the fuel sending unit that is in the gas tank.

Guys,

I thought there was a recall notice for this, where MB actually pays for it? Does anyone have that link/form?

This way you an hit up both your Extended Warranty and MB to fix it for you for free.

I would be more than happy to help you out with the problem. I would have to actually look at the car to confirm that the problem is what I think it would be but you are looking at about $1000.00 for us to fix it. The part usually takes about one day to get and we would put it in for you as soon as the part walked through the door.

Let me know, we are right on Long Island at exit 46 of the LIE.

Your worst nightmare...
Did they perform the recall on your car? if not they have to cover it period. Call the Service advisor and ask if the recall was performed. Sounds like it wasnt.

My dealer replaced the gas tank and both sending units for $660.00 and gave me a loaner to drive for 2 days. They covered the parts under "good will" warranty and I paid the labor which still turned out low. The recall had already been done a couple of years ago.
