Dreaded fuel smell in my E55

I took the plunge and dropped the MB off at the stealership.
I could not take the wonderful smell of fuel any more.

It was so bad that people from the outside of the car could now smell it.
In addition to the smell, it was having a difficult time starting when cold. Once it was warmed up, it was ok, just on cold starts or when sitting for a while.
I dropped it off this past Monday, & I advised the SM what the issues were he laughed & said man, how were you driving around with that gas smell...

As it turrns out, the fuel sending unit was bad or had a crack, etc... also they replaced both fuel pumps & both seals. I am on my way to pick the car up at 5pm tonight. I will let you all know how it turned out. Fingers crossed...

One thing I did want to point out is that I purchased an extended warranty from Bruce Mendel. its with NAC.
This is the second time I have had to bring the car in for warranty work & the second time that I have had 0 issues. No questions asked!!! I can not be more pleased with my investment on the warranty.

I am pretty sure I need maybe 1 more visit to the stealership & my investment will have paid for it self & I still have 3 years to go before it runs out. Sweet!!!

I have the same issue...its been hot here in Denver and the 55 sleeps in a garage that doesn't drop below 90 at night. I notice it most in the morning when I first start it up but then it goes away. Just to be safe I'll schedule an appt. to have it checked out.

I'm having the same problem, currently, but it's dripping onto my left exhaust pipe. Towing it to the shop, as I don't feel safe driving a "bomb".

Wish me luck.

Anyone in the New York area that has this problem, we will be happy to fix it for them. We accept aftermarket warranty's as well and have a lot of experience with the issue.

Craig,

i just got on your site and Norton blocked it when i clicked on the Mercedes section and said It just stopped an attack by:

Mass Iframe injection Attack 2

Thought I'd let you know.

This happened twice already!

Both of the times Fidelity warranty covered it, but it happened twice within 1 year! NO wonder my SA said Fidelity dropped MB and no one will cover AMGs anymore..

I get the feeling something is wrong with OEM fuel tanks from MB

Ah, that's not too bad. Was that at the dealership? If so, my independent should be a couple $200 cheaper, haha.

I'm sure my warranty will cover it, but if not, I at least have a ballpark figure.

Thanks for the GL.

Guys, isn't there an offical MB recall notice for this as well?

So if so, you have have two options, one for the extended warranty to cover it and/or two MB will fix it under their normal recall policy.

I seem to be fine but I might take my car in just to have this checked out.

Thank for the guidance here.
