Question from a noob

Hello peoples. Quick question: based on the info on motortrend's site, am i correct to assume that 09 e63 didn't have a back up camera as an option? What about 08 and 10s? Thanks a lot

Never understood what the point of a backup camera was as long as you have parktronic/park-o-matic etc.

those are the sensors in the rear bumper that beep faster and faster as you approach something, right? i can see how that's useful but i've gotten attached to a rear camera over the last few years since i back into most parking spaces

It's more electronics to break so the stealers can rape you once your warranty is up. Take Airmatic for example

I'm looking into iPad options for my backup camera.

I would be worried about someone ripping of the rear view camera, especially if it is mounted to a license plate frame.

A typical thief knows that stealing the camera is useless, as the support electronics for the lens and sensor are not "at" the camera. We have yet to have a customer have a camera stolen.
FYI cahiil55k, the iPad does not have any video input - only output.

There's a way but you have to think outside the box and build a custom solution. uNetCams eliminates the need to run any cabling or wires to the iPad.

Understood method, but a lot of trouble IMHO. Doing 4-5 rear camera installs a week, it does not take long, and is very reliable without any 'wireless' or ip glitches or signal delays.

Yep I agree with you there and would never do an iPad setup solely for use as a backup cam.

If I can find our pictures, I can show you why a backup camera is a GREAT point even if you have bumper sensors (parktronic). I have seen literally a hundred cases by now, where the sensors don't pick up something slim, low, or hanging high ....and BAM - car damage. Fortunately I have only heard, and not seen, of the child/pet under the back that is not picked up either.

Bottom line the sensors have dead spots and nothing beats being able to see nearly 180 degrees. A great example is being between two large vehicles at Walmart and when you are trying to back out of the spot and can't see what is coming down the aisle. With a backup camera, you can see clear to both ends of the aisle because of the wide angle....parking sensors will not help at all there.

All you need to do on the 2009 cars with NTG 2.5 is install any aftermarket backup camera and run the video feed tothe video input on the back of the comand. It will activate the backup camera whenever reverse is selected.

That is only true of certain classes and models.... however, it is true. Call us with your car information and we can help you determine if all you need is the camera with special Fakra adapter OR the VIM/camera kit. Either way it can be done on ALL Mercedes with a COMAND screen (going clear back to 1999)

It's sad that people rely on electronics to do something as simple as backing into parking space, garage, etc. or even parallel parking. If people would learn how to adjust their mirrors properly, and actually look over their shoulders, you wouldn't need a camera!

I understand you are trying to sell your product, but still!

Actually for basic backing up, I fully agree BUT as a person that has personally backed over a valuable package that UPS left for me right underneath the edge of my bumper (area covered by a camera, but not a mirror) - or from the same guy (me) that drives two rather low to the ground cars and can't see past the two giant SUV's parked next to me at Walmart (can't see who is coming down the parking aisle), a camera covers that too. It is simply an advancement in technology that now even the government has mandated on new cars, because it is a proven safer method than all the blind areas caused by mirrors and window pillars, etc.
Of course, we are in the business of selling these devices, but also because we really believe in them. I shudder to think had that been a pet or God forbid a child I backed over instead of a thing. Unfortunately, statistics show this to be a very high percentage of how children are injured at home...

Wow, what a bad attitude! We're all supposed to just agree with your opinion?

We have a backup camera on our mini-van and it is excellent. There are so many times that I've been ready to back out, only to see something in the camera. VERY useful.

Do you have the same opinion of safety belts and car seats? Unneeded safety devices?
