E63 oil poll!
The 0w40 is the cheapest, followed by the Mobil 1 ESP and then the Amsoil, although the ESP is much harder to find. If you use a different oil please post up what it is and why. Thanks!

The 0W-40 has more wear inhibitors that the 5W-40.
MB would have you run the 5W-40 because the wear inhibitors could cause the cat to age faster which is under a mandate LoNG warrantee. Someone elsa probably knows how long. The OP should because he has researched this web site.
The reason Mercedes also chose Mobil1 0W40 is cause of its cold viscosity, as cold starts are what ruin motors and the tolerance of Mobil1 0W40 was one of the lowest and still provides lubrication. 5w-40 ESP was recently approved for Mercedes use because of the cat issue as stated above.
In the private lounge someone actually posted all the oils and the specific chemicals and tolerances and nothing was close to Mobil1

I saw that, but the participating retailers are a bunch of obscure places. No Napa, Autozone etc.
Thanks though!
I agree that Amsoil and Motul make good products, but it would be really bad news if someone took your advice and then had an engine failure for some other non- related reason. A crate motor is some $60k.

Do you know that Amsoil, Motul and others do not have oils that meet the functional specifications of the oil they have approved?
