"NAVIGATION DEVICE UNAVAILABLE" - thoughts?
Replace the Navi drive
The not available message first started appearing occasionally, then more often, and finally a regular occurrence after the engine's been warm for a while. Replacing the Navi drive fixed the issue for good.
Hey fellas,
I just picked my first AMG today- w211 E55 it's such an insane car, I love it!!!
My factory radio head unit has a nav and map button but the screen reads as navigation device unavailable.
I looked in the trunk for a navi unit and I don't see one as pictured in the feed above
My question is: did all w211 E55's come with navi as a stock option or was it an item that was an option when ordered from dealer?
If I purchase the navi brain can I just plug and play with stock wires pr-run in trunk?
Thanks for the pointers guys

In an 04 it was standard. Looks like a six disk CD player on driver side rear in trunk. If it's gone you should be able to see where it was. Wires should be there
Any know if this is the correct replacment part?

If you PM me your VIN, I can look up the correct part numbers for you. I have seen them for cheaper .. ~$120 or so. Frankly though the W211 nav system is pretty crap. I'd rather spend the money on a Tom Tom or Garmin .. or just a phone app like Waze

For those who have this issue happens....Before replacing unit, disc, or other more $$ items, try this: Just unplug the fuse for Nav system in the fuse box and put it back. It happens to my system on my 06 wagon once in a while and this trick does it.
Hope this helps.

Do you know if this is fuse 03 located in trunk? Thanks Tony
I just switched out my head unit and replaced it with one I found on eBay.
The process was a simple plug-and-play -- no radio code needed, but the "Navigation device unavailable" message appeared. (The radio and CD player worked.)
I was able to fix the problem by removing and reinserting the navigation fuse (fuse box in rear trunk) as described here.
Thanks!!
