"NAVIGATION DEVICE UNAVAILABLE" - thoughts?

I hopped in my car this morning, started her up, went to put an address into the NAV.

I clicked the "NAV" button and this message appeared on the screen. I clicked "MAP" button, same deal.

I attempted to shut the car off and it might just be a glitch, nope, still there. I've tried it a couple times today, still same deal.

Culprit? Any ideas?

Thank you

This may seem trivial but I wonder if one of the cables got lose? Did the dealer or any third party work on the navigation at all any time recently?

I will check these out, thank you guys.

And no, the dealer or anybody for that matter hasn't touched the NAV system since I've owned the car.

Armo - I don't don't know if this will qualify but twice I have had electrical gremlims: 1) was the "low battery, convenience functions not available" and the second was my Nav screen frozen in the AMG logo, never turning on and wouldn't shut off after the car was turned off and the key was removed....both fixes where relatively easy and not what I was expecting....To get rid of the first one - all I had to do is tighten the cables on the rear battery; to resolve the second, I unplugged the cable to the rear battery for 10 seconds, reconnected it and the Nav issue was gone (just be careful, because it will reset all your settings (one touch windows, ESP, ect but if you search on the forum it'll tell you how to reset all of that)....I'm hoping it'll be that simple for you - just thought I'd throw it out before you buy some parts. . .

Do a search on which fuse. Otherwise open the fuse panel in the trunk and briefly pull and replace the fuses. It's one of them just can't remember which

It can't be a loose cable otherwise you would have no audio at all... It's connected in a fiber ring and if the cable came loose, the audio data wouldn't travel to your AGW and Headunit. I had this problem in my previous vehicle. Most likely it's a bad navigation processor.

i had the same problem also and you can reset the nav drive by sliding it out and unplugging it and plugging it back in.

Mine showed the same message about 6 months ago. It happened for a day and then went away overnight and has not returned since. Hopefully yours will function properly again tomorrow. One thing I noticed when this happened was that I could play 16 different songs from a CD and they all showed the same artist and title. Also, changing the radio station worked fine but the display remained stuck on one station.

It's still working fine today. We will see how long this lasts - if indeed this is just a temporary fix. So far, it's working fine.

Stay tuned...

I went to walmart and replaced my aux batt and everything I posted above went away. when you fill the motorcycle batt with the acid it's 50% charged, after an hour it's ready to go.

I am having the same issue on my 07 E63. I tried fuse #3 (I think this is the navigation one) and no fix. Tried the reset and no go. I tried to insert the Nav dvd and it wont go in. Seems there is no power to the trunk unit maybe?

Here's what I see back there:

If I unplug that stand alone one with 2 orange wires the head unit stops working.

It stops working due to a lack of communication. The two orange wires are the MOST optical ring. You are essentially breaking the ring.

Have you noticed any moisture in your trunk? It appears as though the bracket for the navigation drive has been wet.

I looked and didn't find any signs of moisture. I just recently purchased the car though. So the two orange wires are separate from the NAV? Is anything missing from the cables I have on the NAV unit? Should there just be two or 3? I have no clue what I am looking at

If you look at the discoloration of the bracket. It appears as though there was water on it at one time. The MOST connector is only the two lines. There is nothing missing. The reason your head unit stops working is due to the fact that it can no longer communicate with any of the other components on the optical ring when it is disconnected. Even if a secondary component(navigation) dies. The signal that is sent out by the master(AGW) is looped through failed component. This allows the audio system to continue to operate if a secondary component fails.

If you cannot get the navigation unit to eject/load a disk. If the power supply and ground is good. You probably have a failed drive. Sometimes performing a hard restart will get things working for a little while, but is not a permanent fix to a problem.
