Paint or powdercoat our wheels? Good idea?
I have read that powdercoating alloy wheels and other wheel types can cause damage and can cause the wheels to bend etc. if they undergo the powdercoating process. Is this true for our car wheels as well?
Is it a better idea to paint or powdercoat our wheels? I want to get them done a glossy black finish. I would think if painted, it would have to be a few layers on paint and then some clear coat layers. Also, I'm sure powdercoating is far more expensive than getting them painted.

If done properly and not at too high of a temp, no issues. Prep properly. PD will lost longer vs rattle can.

I had my Roush wheels painted back in 2005 and, to this day, they still look like the day I had them done. If done professionally, paint can last for a good amount of time.
Since I wanted to leave the lip silver and just paint the face, I was told that powdercoating was not an option since the powder could get underneath whatever they used to mask the lip off.

Your E55 is at least 5 years old, is the paint peeling on it? Probably not, somehow people think once paint hits wheels it lasts as long as a tank of gas.

I have had wheels painted before and they held up great, but if you want the most durable finish you can get then go with powder coating.
Powder coating will not fade color as the powder is baked and fused onto the metal, it will also be less prone to chipping.
